I'm new to the forum and seems to have a lot of useful info but wanted to ask for some advice. I've shot all my life lots of clays, as well as rifle and pistol but haven't hunted much next week my Dad and I are going on our first duck hunt we have a guide but they didn't tell us much other than when to show up. I have a Berreta a300 12 gauge chambered in 3inch but was looking for advice on what type of shells I should use? Also would love any advice y'all may have for a first time duck hunter. Thank you for any help y'all may provide I'm looking forward to learning and being active on the forum

If you have time between now and then to pattern your gun to a load that would help, but assuming you dont, just make sure youre shooting steel 3" #4's or #3's. Some shoot 2 3/4" but I prefer 3". I'd go with an imp choke depending on the setup, you can always ask the guide how far the shots will average but when shooting steel imp choke patterns closer to a mod, and mod patterns closer to a full. Take it as a learning experience, and have fun.

Put your plug in and make sure you have all the license requirements. Hope you have a good guide, and your first experience is a good one! Don't overthink your shots if you're good at clays, hardest part for new people can just be picking out 1 duck to shoot at instead of flock shooting. You can't hit 2 or 3 until you hit one, so slow down and make a good first shot

The guide is gonna call the shot to try and accommodate all the hunters in your group. Even if a bird is 10 yds in front of you, you have to wait until he yells 'take 'em.' It's much easier said than done.

Thank y'all for the help I will call the guide and ask about how far shots will average. I was planing on going to the range before then to practice anyways so I'll do that while I'm there as well. Ive made sure plugs in and I already got my license and stamp. I will also keep that in mind to not not rush and take my time, I know a two or three people who have used the guide before and have heard nothing but great things about them. Im trying to make this year a good kick off went on my first dove hunt this year also gonna try and go on my first hog hunt as well. A friend also talked about possibly taking me with him deer hunting I've shot a doe before but was little back then. They did tell me that it would be just the guide my Dad and myself so Its not going to be a big group since it's our first time

Personally, I like Kent 3" #3. enjoy your hunt & let us know how it goes!!!
Cigarettes are like hamsters. Perfectly harmless til you put it in your mouth & light it on fire
