I called up a good friend from college to see if he had a wild hair to go fishing at his place in East Matagorda Bay Wednesday night, since I was going to be close to him. I was down in Kingsville at Rifles Only (RO) for the 308 Win train up from Monday to Wednesday. We were off on Thursday and had the shooting match on Friday/Saturday. He said yes and brought a friend, my brother came down from Dallas, and the party was on! His place is in a small area called Chinquapin. There is a small inlet there, and his house is right on this inlet. You fish at night with large spot lights shining into the water. This brings the fish in. This time of year is the best time to go, since the water is high.

We started fishing at dark Wednesday night, and by 12 am, we had 30+ fish in the cooler (see picture). We filleted these up, and kept fishing for the new day (there were several locals that also joined us). We ended up with over 45 fish for night. We went to bed about 3 am. They somehow talked me into staying the second night til 10 pm (I had a 3+ hour drive back to RO), and we had 11 fish in the cooler before I had to haul butt to RO for Friday morning shooting. This was the most productive fishing I have had here, and want to go back ASAP while it's good. The water kept rising on us, and by morning, it was up over the dock we fish from. It got as high as ankle deep. We had bait fish being chased up onto the dock at our feet in the lights. It was crazy. The biggest one was a trout that I caught that was 24 1/2" long. Since we had plenty of trout, we let this female go. I lost several very large fish, that pulled a lot more than I had the line strength for. (BTW- I am a huge Rangers fan, but I coached my son's Angels team. Hence the shirt)

Looks like you guys had an awesome trip. That said, are you the one wearing an Angels shirt? If so, we may need to take a vote on sending you to "ban" camp for such an agregious offense.

Yes, that's me. I know! I coached my sons baseball team, which was the Angels. I'm a die hard Rangers fan, though!

That's a good enough reason to wear the shirt.

What's funny is when I wear this Angels shirt with a Rangers hat. I do get weird looks with that combo!
