I'm mounting an address plaque to my daughter's house today. The house is a bricked 50's ranch. I know I've read one is better than the other, but can't remember which. Do I drill installation holes (only two holes, about a foot apart) into the brick or the mortar?

Mortar. You can patch that. Real brick is hard to drill too.

Hit mortar or hit the end of a brick. Otherwise you'll drill into a hollow hole of the brick.

1/4" drive in anchors look the cleanest when done. And I hope you're using a hammer drill.

Got a hammer drill. Good point about missing the holes in the bricks. Can't see them so I hadn't even thought about that! duh... Thanks much.

You can also use an industrial bonding agent from lowes or Home depot and you wont have to drill holes. They have some that comes in a caulk tube in the concrete section. Look for ones marked "Epoxy"
