Just bought a Bushnell Elite Tactical 3-12x44 with illuminated mil dot reticle. I haven't got to shoot yet but so far I like it. I bore sighted my rifle and believe I'm only going to have 8 or 9 mils of elevation left with the factory rail. I need to buy a 20 moa rail for my CTR and I'm set .

8-9 mils may be enough depending on how far you are shooting and caliber

Would 8-9 mils get a 260 to 1000 yards ? I ran calculations through JBM and it shows 9.5 mils to 1000. Using 123 grain match kings.

Depends on bullet and velocity... My 300 is 7.5 to 1k

jbm is very correct, very often, as long as you input the correct data.

Get an EGW 20 MOA pic rail when you can. Not goot maxing out the turret if it can be helped.

Is this a pretty good scope to start with? I know it's not a high end scope but for the price I could not pass it up.

They are very solid scopes, with very clear glass. You will probably always have a rifle to put it on.

^^ This, or a 140 Berger VLD, 139 Scenar, 140 A-max, or high BC 140 grain bullet. It will shoot flatter and have less wind drift.

I've been lusting after a FFP scope for my prairie dog gun for several years, but just couldn't part with that much money. I ran across an Amazon open box deal about a month ago on a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50. Scope showed up as described and there were no marks to indicate it had ever had rings put on it. The glass is clear and bright. With the sun shield on it, its a big honking scope.

I have not hunted with it yet, but I sighted it in and then did some plinking with it last weekend. It is SWEET. Knob turning is new to me, but I believe I'm gonna like it. I was only able to shoot out to about 350 years..but the beer can jumped on the third shot! banana

We all need to practice Whoa more.
