Spent the weekend scouting for elk and mulies. There are some decent prospects for the opener next week. Probably saw 125-150 whitetail also, but we never get tags for them. Mulie with a broken ear. My buck from a few weeks ago A nice bull. Hopefully he will be around next week when season opens. Sorry the picture aint too good. Another decent buck URL=http://s930.photobucket.com/user/jensent/media/5EB244E3-A2DD-489C-8777-BBE2F6B9912F_zpsv1itlze3.jpg.html] [/URL]

Lookin like y'all are gonna have a great season! Sadly, I'm not seeing near the numbers that were on the place last year. During season last year, there was a resident herd of about 20-25 mulie bucks and about 40 elk. This year there's about 5 bucks and 10 elk. Every year we seem to see less elk and mulies but the number of whitetails appears to grow exponentially.

What's the story on the WT tags? Doesn't the area biologist control this in Wyoming? 100+ deer needs some level of management IMO.

From my undertsanding, you can get deprivation permits but the landower does not get to use them. The state will let people come hunt your place but you're limited to hunt only what you can draw for. If it were Texas, we would be able to get some serious MLD permits. It's not unusual to have 150+ whitetails in the pasture in front of the house right at sunrise or sunset.

^^^ And I am talking 150 WT's just in the pasture in front of the house. The entire place is about 10,000 acres, so you can only imagine how many more are out there.

So other people can come hunt your ranch to take out some WT's but y'all can't hunt them? Makes sense.
You can run but you can't hide...

They could take some deer mgmt lessons from Texas for sure.
