Love hunting crows, little buggers are smart, they are a nuisance, and nothing to clean up afterwards. Afraid they may fall under Federal jurisdiction, touchy subject now, and require steel shot. What area did the hunt take place?

OK, kids live at Tanglewood but that photo looked very similar to some areas in southern Erath county.

Love hunting crows, little buggers are smart, they are a nuisance, and nothing to clean up afterwards. Afraid they may fall under Federal jurisdiction, touchy subject now, and require steel shot. What area did the hunt take place? Yep. The Federal regulations changed yet again about a year ago. For the depredation order (not permit) there is more added to the Federal regs now than just non tox shot. Done legal one must attempt an accepted non lethal control method at least once each calendar year before you can use a lethal control. And there is a reporting requirement that includes how many, how, and when you take the target and non target birds. They even came up with a reporting form for it. Again this is for the order, not the permit, and includes individuals. I don't think Wardens are enforcing the Federal regs in Texas, but one of these days they are going to catch up to us. I really wish Texas would just give us a season. Federal frameworks allow us a 174 day Crow season if TPWD would just ask for it. This would open them up for hunting on public land as well just like they do in OK and LA.

We had the crow season in Kansas, sure was fun with a couple boxes of steel 7's when duck hunting was slow. They came in waves and when robo's first came out they would hover over them like a duck. My dad and I had a good time with the hovering ones, poke your barrels out of the blind.. 1.. 2.. 3.. Feather explosion!!
