I get the feeling we have some doubters out there concerning our pontoon duck blind build. Let's see how many people think it will not work properly.

Well if the toon is rated around 4K lbs and you only have 1K in materials, I think you'd be hard pressed to sink it. Even at 250# per hunter you're still way in the clear.

Yeah me too, but I'm leaving a little wiggle room for a "well, it did look a little top heavy" if it flips over. I'm just trolling Wayne here. grin

I'm pretty confident in the floating part. There are a few variables. The toons are not made of aluminum. We are not sure what it weighed after we striped it of everything. I'd have to ask what it weighed when they pulled it across the scales to scrap it.

I also could be a little light on material weight but can't see how it would be over 1500 lbs. one of the guys helping pressure tested the toons and determined they had no leaks and each had three chambers.

I really think the things we need to worry about are stong winds tearing it apart because it's just a big box. I think anchoring it on one end letting it move with the wind will help with that.

I have been considering anchoring issues with mine as well. I will be on a lot of wide open water. I have a 100 foor 1 inch anchor rope. 6 foot of anchor chain and a big anchor. I am sure that will hold it. The back end of the boat I might just have a push pole stuck down into the bay floor. I reckon we will both trial and error these things until we get it right.

If I get a wind from the starboard side, which will be just about always because the port side if the shooting side then I have a solid wall exposed to the wind. Actually if the wind is hitting starboard or port I have 288 square feet acting as a sail. I have some relief if needed in the door and a window. I just figure if it is so windy I just won't go. I am not that angry at the birds I can't just stay at the condo and make breakfast for everybody.

I was thinking if it was really windy we could just set ours at an angle and hunt with a slight cross wind.

It will be nice to park parallel with the bank in River X, throw the anchor on the bank and let the current push us against the shoreline. The skeg down and turned will act as a rudder in the current and push us into the shore.

You forgot the option "ducks will not fly within 5 miles of that monstrosity" laugh

I think you'll do great in it. It'll be a fun way to hunt.

If it don't float, you got a pretty good pit blind.

Especially if I corn the crap out of the water around it.. JK

We do need to get it in the water soon so they can get used to it. We actually had a lot of big ducks already last Saturday.

I think it will float, it will sit lower than normal of course, but it should float. Like it was said above, make sure it it secured in high wind.

I'm pulling for you. I think it will float...quite far with a stiff wind!

Just kidding. I think it will be great.
