The rule of thumb I was taught was to not take dogs onto the land where you're hunting because when the dog leaves his scent, the deer can't tell the difference between a domestic dog and a coyote. But I've seen some hunters bring their dogs around when filling feeders and building blinds and scouting the land.

What say ye? Dogs or no?

I take my mini Aussie with me all the time when I am checking on things and scouting. Occasionally taken her in the blind with me during the season. She knows when I'm loading up for the lease and she gets pissed when I leave the house without her. No difference to the deer that I have seen.

My male lab rides with me checking cameras and filling feeders. He gets out and runs around and does what male dogs do as he feels necessary. Obviously he's not doing his business on the feeder or camera but his scent is left in the area and have no issues with deer behavior.

It does not matter at all. I let mine run a wheat field late season for about 30 minutes. 2 hours later there were almost 30 deer in the field. My dog was in the truck last year and started barking. The deer looked in that direccion then went back to eating. It bothered me more than the deer. About a auarter mile away.

Folks on our lease bring can their dogs but they are strongly urged to leave them in camp.

Got a big black lab that will come and get out n the blind with me sometimes. He knows what happens when I pick up the rifle and will put his paw over his face. Never noticed a difference though whether or not he comes along. He helps me fill feeders too.

As much as I like having her around, my blue lacy will run right through cactus, if there's any, and I have to stop, get the tweezers out and work on her. 'Just not worth it.

Looked at a lease a few years ago and asked about dogs. "Sorry, no dogs allowed." A few minutes later, another lease member pulls up...with his dog. Everyone thinks their dog is better behaved than the next guy's.

A lot depends on what is happening when you are not there with other dogs. I have had issues on my place with a neighbors dogs running freely and chasing game. I had TC taking pics for 2 weeks while I was gone hunting. One camera took over 1000 pics in the first 9 days till the dogs showed up. Now that TC is taking only takes 10-15 pics per day. Had the same thing happen during the late ML season 3 yrs ago now when I saw 30+ deer one morning till dogs showed up barking and chasing deer. Next 3 days I did not see that many deer combined hunting mornings and evenings.
For me it really depends on the other dog activity on your place. If you have dogs running loose chasing game at random then it will effect your deer movement. The deer on my place will turn inside out when they see a coyote or a dog.
(dates are wrong, this was in the past 2 weeks)

I walk my dog to my feeder and plot almost every day, doesn't seem bother the deer at all for me. As STX said, I can see a difference when my neighbors dogs are out, all they seem to do is chase the deer.

As some said, I think the deer can differentiate when they are being tagged, or your business as usual.

My dog goes out every trip, sometimes we are in the box blind together when hunting or sitting in the truck watching a field. Many times he will spot deer before I do.

As far as running around when just filling feeders he gets to.
