Stay away from anything with fire in the name. Panasonic. Xtar, samsung and Sanyo make good cells. We have them available on our site if you have not made a purchase already.

AW makes great batteries, so does Panasonic. Several flashlight makers have started selling their own brand of cells (Nitecore, Fenix, Olight, etc), but personally I'd stick with either Panasonic or AW. Also, make sure you get PROTECTED (PCB) batteries.

As for a charger, I've been very happy with my Nitecore i4 intellicharger. If you only need two batteries, they make an i2 which is a little less expensive. As a bonus, the Nitecore Intellicharger will charge both 18650 battereis, as well as Sanyo Eneloops (and similar chemistries).

I've been using batteries from laptops for several years now. You'll have to have a source and the patience to disassemble the packs, test batteries, and so on. Can't beat the price..I have a lifetime supply for just a little work!

It is worth pointing out to anyone who might not know too much about rechargeable batteries that the 18650 batteries that come from laptop packs are typically unprotected (which is a risk all in its own if you don't understand voltage ranges and when to stop using and recharge) and often are already toast from years of use. Out of a laptop pack you might get some good and bad batteries mixed together, and it is important that a potential user of these batteries do some serious research online and make sure they understand the risks associated with using unprotected cells.
