I have a place about 10 miles southwest of Rocksprings just off Hwy 674.
I have never heard coyotes howling nor have I seen one in person or on trail cam in the area.

When I use to hunt in south Texas we would hear and see them all the time.

I find it hard to imagine that you could put such a big dent in the coyote population but I've not seen any in my area.

Have some areas eradicated Coyotes in the Rocksprings area? I heard from an old timer that the ranchers hit coyotes hard when the sheeping/ram industry was in full swing.

He's right. Mohair production kept ranchers on the lookout for 'yotes, daily. Government trappers also played a big part. I would suspect they will return eventually, since angora raisers are becoming less common.

I remember as a kid in the Uvalde area seeing Cyanide Bate Traps around the area.
Do they still use these?

I also wonder if there is just enough low hog fence in the area to keep the yotes movement down

The whole Edwards Plateau is supposed to be coyote free.

Research Paper on coyotes in Edwards Plateau

The above paper makes it sound like they are coming back.
I just haven't seen any in my area.

They're here just really quiet. Coyote areas are Eastern Edwards Co along the East prong of the Nueces River, Northern Edwards along the Kimble Co line. State trappers are always busy on the ranches that are apart of the trapping clubs. Yes they still use M-44 cyanide guns but mainly in the spring of the year. They are more effective after hunting season. Numbers are coming up due to loss of sheep and goat ranches, land and habitat fragmentation, some say (local old timers) it's the worst they have ever seen. Well that's cuz they have never had them till now. I've caught and shot a few in the last 10 or so years around here but I'm not calling it an emergency. More like a reset.

Hunted NW of Rocksprings for many years and never heard or saw a coyote. Like someone said the sheep guys killed them off.

I am just a bit south of you in Kinney off 674. Had my place since 2007 and never seen a yote, and we run up to 8 cams and have done some predator calling and lots of blind hunting, and would have seen or caught a pic if they were there. We've had fox, mountain lion, bobcat, and even a black bear on the place, but no coyotes. Husband of the realtor I dealt with on my place was a State Trapper, and he said they were totally wiped out in the area.

It will when you start seeing the damage to the wildlife they do.

The goat and sheep guys keep them shot out. I remember back a few years ago when a coyote was heard the whole town of ozona would go find it.
