This year was all about the Bow. This year I was going to take it serious. This year, I was final going to shoot a deer during archery season. This was it. I've been bowhunting before. I've just never been overly serious. I'd get the bow down a couple weeks before bow season. shoot it enough to get all the arrows on a target. And go. I'd camo up, sit where ever. No real attention to scent control. Paid attention to the direction of the wind based on where my cigarette smoke went. I've been bowhunting maybe a dozen time in 30 some odd years of hunting. I even shot and missed once!!!! This year though, I really wanted to take one with a bow. Got my bow out early in the summer. Got it all set up. Adjusted the timing and tiller and was ready to go. Was practicing once a week minimum. Was keeping the arrows tight. Was getting to the point I was having to actually use different aiming points on the target out to 20 yards. Robin Hoods are cool, at first. They do get expensive QUICK. And then I started noticing an issue. My string was beginning to fray. And fray more than I wanted. I shoot an Oneida Tomcat. Swapping a string isn’t difficult!! So I found I had a string in my gear box. Nocking point found. D-Loop installed. Peep put in place. Silencers tied on. Let’s go shoot!!!!! And still, everything is working just great. But….I want it to be perfect. I had to make sure EVERYTHING was in alignment. I then found out that the y top of my string was a little further from the riser than the bottom of my string. Not by much, but every little bit can hurt efficiency. So, I did my research. I studied. I planned I looked it all up, and it looked like an easy fix. Somewhere though, I screwed up. My timing cable slip and came un wrapped. It needs to be replaced. And with further research, I realize that the power cable on the bow also need to be replacing. And I don’t have the $$ needed for the parts to fix it. So here we are, less than two weeks from opening day, And I am bow-less. Not a happy camper. Well, thanks for reading my woes……Good luck to those who will be in the woods!!!! Shoot me a big one!!!!! PS…….I am refusing to touch any of my rifles before Open season, just in case I need to “fix” them too…….

Good news, bow season is 3 months long if you keep those rifles in the closet. Next time let a pro shop change those strings.

You'd be lucky to find one that does. The only place I can think of would be CCR, but I would call first to make sure.

With the season opening soon and as tricky as those old oneidas are, I would throw it up on ebay or craigslist then use the funds towards picking up an outfitted Diamond bow or similar to get you through the season.

I found a bow tech who claims to know how to fix Oneida's. He's an older guy (I'm 43, for reference) and he seems to know what he is talking about. Timing cable and new string on the way. Now its a time crunch to see if everything comes in in time and he gets it up and running by opening weekend. Oh and me getting it sited in.....Ugg, I need more time. I feel a sick day coming on very soon.
