Went to my property today to check on a few things and change out some cards. I'm only feeding 2sec spin at 6:30am ( 30 min before day light )
1 sec spin mid day
2sec ( 30 before dark )

Still have just a little bit of corn standing or left on the ground. Even with those two coons. They come very seldom from the pics I have seen.

Normally everyday I have 2 does and 2 fawn. The 2 fawn sit outside the pen as they can't get in.

Had my first young buck visit the other day. I'm guessing a very young buck from the picture below. Not much but it's the first buck.

Hoping as fall arrives more will arrive at the feeder.


Question when do I need to turn the feeder up?

Depends on if you are bow hunting or not and if your neighbors are bow hunting or not. I usually turn mine up first of September or so to normal feedings.

Right now I do 5-7 seconds during rifle sea season I do 10-15 seconds.

turn it up now. also, find something to get that feeder up higher off the ground.

Why get the feeder off the ground ?

This is how this particular brand of feeder sits.

i just like my feeders to cast a long distance. i'd be interested to see the radius on those feeders.

Those feeders throw the corn.

I would say about 10/15 feet at about 100 mph haha

Just don't be standing by it or near when it goes off.

Leave the feeder just how it is. Since your not hunting the hill country it will take some time for mature bucks to be comfortable visiting your feeder.

They might not until a doe comes in that they are trailing.

Yeah being my first year to own this property I have a lot of learning and possible changing up to do.
How come bucks are so different in the hill country?

Because the deer population is much less in Stephens county compared to hill country counties.

Bucks where you hunt have more groceries from Mother Nature.

If it continues to stay dry the doe will come more. When the rut kicks in, the bucks will follow them around.

I dont turn my feeder on until September and I also chum hundreds of lbs of corn around the area.

May be slow for the next few weeks, acorns are starting to fall pretty good, at least up her in Wise Co.
