Due to having my wallet stolen with just about everything in it I'm having trouble working out if I can go ahead and get my hunting license.
Due to paperwork complications they won't give me a new drivers license without my work permit card, which DHS has said could be 3 months. Question is can I go ahead and get my hunting license online and not have too many problems? I've been invited to hunt this Friday but won't bother if I'll get a load of trouble over it.
My drivers license is a Temporary Non-Resident, but I have had a permanent address in Texas since 2013 so I'm allowed to get a resident license.
Anyone have any views? Could I purchase online and print it out, would that cover me? Would a photocopy of my DL be sufficient for the GW of i were to be checked? Or would a copy be sufficient to get my license at Academy?

I shall name you salt, cause that stings in an already open wound! cry

Someone decided that they needed my stuff and the whole $12 that was in my wallet more than I did.

I have my passport, it's about the only thing left. I just don't want them to think that I trying to get away with buying a residential instead of non-res. and can't justify $315 for the non-res just to be on the safe side when I am allowed to purchase residential because I have ad a fixed address in Texas for more than 6 months.
I'd sooner not hunt this year and not run the risk of being written up for something I couldn't help.

Your best bet is to call or visit a Wildlife office. You may be able to get a plain ID card faster than a DL, wont help you as far as driving, but would meet the Identification criteria I would think, if you can even get one under your circumstances.

Best way to find out is go to the source, call the Texas Parks and Wildlife and ask fof the "enforcement Division" and ask one of those folks, better know for certain.

Did you have a previous Resident Hunting License if you did you don't have a problem you can look up your TPWS customer number and use that. As far as the work permit, doesn't your employer have a photo copy of it in your employment file, that might be all you need for the DL.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

No previous HL. This would be my first year where I'm in a position to hunt. I have photocopies of everything, DL, work permit, social.. The lot.
Hunting license is the least of my worries really, when they broke into my truck they took all paperwork, including job apps with social number on... Just waiting for someone to use my ID to do something that will affect me. Right now I'm banking on photocopies being enough for DL renewal. Stuck at the house until then!

I think this is where you are going to have trouble.
Now, if you had a Texas drivers license, you could probably just go on-line, punch in your DL's #, and be good to go.
Looks like you may have to just call the Austin HQ and get it all sorted out.

Buy online, you will get a printout that will be good until license arrives in mail. Photocopy of ID should be OK if stopped in field. Cops, including wardens, are good guys with understanding 99.99% of the time. The other .01% is usually because whomever they are dealing with is being a douche. There are no guarantees, and you could always run into a LEO with bad attitude and chip on his shoulder, but most of the time they are very good at determining who is giving the BS and trying to get away with something, and who is honestly having a tough time.

I can purchase online, I know my DL number, it's been renewed every year at the same address. I'm going to call and just make sure with TPWD and if they say a photocopy of a license as well as carrying passport to verify license copy is good enough I'll have them email me it so I have it in writing.
You would hope that with photocopy of DL, work permit, social and my passport to verify they are genuine, plus correct hunting licenses would satisfy the fact I'm trying to stay within the law and do as I should, but like you say, I may just bump into someone having a bad day.
I'll make a few calls and see.

have you updated your DL to a Texas DL since you moved here? or was your DL that was stolen from another state? You should be able to go into any DPS license location to do a change of address and get a resident temporary DL ... 4-6 weeks real one comes in the mail.

TPWD said go ahead and buy my license online. They said to speak to GW regarding carrying a photocopy of my DL as proof. But the local dmv changed their mind about replacing my stolen license, should have it done today, I'm assuming the temp paper license is enough to cover me for ID purposes.

Sounds like you're GTG up Actually all an LEO needs is your DL number and he/she can get all the info they want on you, the photo helps with positive ID.
