It's just a doe hunt, but I need meat for the freezer. Anybody ever hunt there? I see the success rate is kind of low, but I think it has to do with people not wanting to walk very far. Let me know if you have any advice.

If it's dry hunt around any available water. Also hunt the funnel areas between low land feeding areas and higher bedding areas. Look for the trails leading to and from.
Watch for swirling wind because of the hills so it's better to try and stay up above the low bottom areas and hunt off the hillsides/saddles if possible.
A tripod or popup works pretty well if you have one.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Thanks for the tips. How was the tpwd staff? It looks like they put huge emphasis horseback riding and not so much hunting.

The park is well used throughout the year for horseback, hiking and bird watching. It is about 5 miles or so across country from me. I have not been there since it was donated to the state. Went to school many years ago with a girl whose father ran the ranch for the Merricks who owned it at the time. Was some pretty rough country with a lot of cedar. From what I have heard they have cleared out many trails. Probably a lot of hogs and some exotics there now. If you can bait use plenty of corn and the deer will come. Don't do a lot of walking just corn and sit.
