Need rings for my deer rifle (Kimber 84L) and it seems like options are limited to the Talley rings/mount that are the rings that basically direct mount into the receiver or the Leupold setup. I'm honestly underwhelmed with the Leupolds. I work at a gun shop and have mounted a few hundred rifles with the Leupold rings and bases. They're not junk, but not my favorite. I want to roll with the Talley's I think, but I've never seen them and we don't carry them. Anyone have any comment? Did you hand lap the Talleys? I usually put blue thread lock on my bases and am hesitant because the Talley's are one piece and there is a small chance that I'll change the tube size of the scope down the road.

I have Talleys on my Ruger American and really like them. I could have lapped them but didn't because they were square when I checked them and it's a hunting rifle that won't get shot all that much. If you think you'll switch tubes later you could always buy the big rings and use 1" inserts. Unless you're talking about red loctite you shouldn't have any problem getting them off.

I'm not a fan of the inserts, honestly. Blue Loctite can sometimes be a pain, but I probably just need a blow dryer on my bench. Mine is a hunting rifle too but I'll probably lap them because I'm Type A, haha. Just curious, why did you use those when the American comes with bases?

I came upon my American second-hand, and whoever had it before me took the bases off. I really wasn't looking for another rifle but it was dirt cheap and 7 mm-08, a cartridge I really wanted to try out. I love it!

You will not be disappointed with the Talley's. I like them allot better than Leupold. I've never lapped mine and I think Talley says it is not needed. No Locktite needed. Just torque them to the recommended specs and your're good.

I use them on almost all of my rifles. IMO, they are very good mounts. I do lightly lap and use fingernail polish on the action screws only. As stated above, you will not be disappointed.

Also, the "Low" mounts are plenty high for most 40-44mm objective scopes. You might need mediums for a 50mm.

Talley gets my vote and are on the two rifles I use for hunting season. Did not lap either set-up.

I switched out all but a my target rifle to talley rings a couples years ago because they were super affordable and effective. I've lapped a couple of them because I bought a scope install kit that mostly featured a torque driver. I found on both that the hi-lo spots were very minimal so I don't even bother with that anymore.

I recommend them to every one with just a normal hunting rifle setup. The only reason I have something different on my target rifle is because I anted it to look the part. I know it's gain but I ain't afraid to admit I like cool looking

I'm a dude who likes long barrels!
