Alright so I'm deer hunting up here in North Dakota again this year. Ive got one sweet whitetail spot to say the least. The area I hunt is set up like this: Huge wide open flat (and I mean FLAT) farm fields with a big deep ravine (like an old river bottom) running down the center dividing the two fields I have permission to hunt. Its got some pretty big steep drop offs at some points and then gradual slopes or "fingers" filled with trees that work their way to the bottom at other points. The deer are bedding in this bottom area and coming up to the fields at night to feed. Trying to set up in the bottom to cut them off going back to their beds in the morning doesn't work because they will be in the fields feeding when you walk in. So morning hunting is impossible for this spot due to no way of not getting busted walking in. Now setting up at the top of this Old river bottom in the evening seems to be the way to go. Ive glassed the area several times and ran cameras and the main traffic area is one of the tree filled "fingers" where they come up and down.Heres the deal. The wind usually is coming out of the N-NW. To set up on this point would almost always have my wind blowing directly into the bottom. Im bow hunting so setting up on the other side (350 yds across) isn't an option as far as reaching out to get them. How do I set up on these deer?

Maybe a cardboard decoy of a cow or antelope? I've heard of people using those to get close to pronghorns. How high is the grass? Could you hide in it? The idea of digging a hole is a good one....how long can you last hiding in a hole? Or maybe you could cut across at a far end of the field into the ravine, sneak through it, and poke yourself just up over the edge at the right spot.

See if you can creep up one of those fingers and pop up over a ridge to put you in position
