Hey all, just wanted some input. I have a howa heavy barrel 1500 in 308 win, that has been capable of .55 moa. The scope i have on it is a bushnell elite 3200 10X40. Was wondering your input on an optic upgrade. I only paid $200 for the bushy And am looking for a diff. Optic under $500...OH, and our "long" range reaches out to 400 yards. Am i good with what i got, or is there room for upgrade for under $500? What say ye???

Mil reticle, Mil turrets, turrets are optional, the reticle is not.

SS 3-9X
Bushnell Elite
Vortex Viper are some options in that price range. Learning the reticle and the holds to 400 yards is not that difficult. The wind does become a factor at 300 yards and beyond. Using the reticle only is the hardest method, since you are holding elevation and wind simultaneously, but 400 yards and in it is not very tough to get good at.

I just picked up a 2x10 Burris XTR II at the SA gunshow today..looks to be a take off of a gun that a dealer bought...while not a screaming deal ( I see they retail for $800) I payed $500 cash for it and walked off-- has a mil dot style retical, clear glass, and looks to be solid...I am not recommending this just looks like it could be an option...will stick it on an encore and give it a work out...but might be a sleeper option if you are looking around, and see something like it on a used table... I have never been a big Burris fan, hope this one changes my mind.

What is it that the Bushnell 10x isn't doing for you? That should be plenty of magnification for 400 yard shots. What do you want it to do better?

Just got a Cabela's ad in the mail that has a 1" tube Vortex 4x16x42 D'Back HP, side focus & Viper HD glass @ $250 bux ...a $170 off...and is a great scope that I have on a M70 300WSM...at the best advertised price I've seen recently.

Anybody wanna buy a new & unfired Crossfire II 4x12x50 AO @ $170 that I am about to mount up so's I can buy 'nuther one of these D'Back HP's ????

A bit over $500 but cameraland will do a 10-15% off sale a few times a year, making it right around $500. It will serve you well to 400yds and more. Exposed turrets with ZS matched to the reticle. Most of the features of the PST with different reticles and non-illuminated.

The SS is a great scope. Another one I've enjoyed on a couple of rifles is this one (get the show sample one)

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.
