Looks like a sumac tree to me.

Hmmm, stems are not red, so its not 'poison sumac'

I think it's 'Prairie flameleaf sumac (R. lanceolata) ..... The fall color is red and orange. ...'

awsome tip, Bill. I just did some quick research;
There is a lot of this plant on our new place. Just-so-happens that wife and kiddos are wanting to eventually raise some bobwhites, so good to see land already has some 'natural groceries' for them.

Flame leaf variety. Makes good deer cover and food. We're covered in it. It loves to grow in areas that have been previously burned. Beautiful in fall.

I got that stuff everywhere in ne texas where we hunt. It seems the hogs like to eat it.
