I'm aware of the requirements for being considered for having eastern wild turkeys released on properties in east Texas, but today I learned of the TTT permit to do this for rios in the state. For landowners who live in an area with suitable habitat for rios but don't have birds in the area, a permit can be obtained to trap and transport rios from landowners with too many turkeys to stock and introduce a population of birds into the none or underpopulated area. The areage requirement is much less than that of the eastern and it's doesn't sound quite as complicated since Texas has hundreds of thousands of rios and the easterns have to be trapped from other sates costing over $500 per bird. If you have the acreage and wasn't aware of this, just say "Thank you" and invite me out for a turkey hunt when you get your flock established...Haha!

We had a TTT done over 20+ yrs ago now on a ranch I managed. It took over a yr to get the permit done to move 100 birds(Rios) in on the ranch and it was a long drawn out process to get it done. IIRC it was around $30/bird back then to TTT. Problem was the birds did not stay on the ranch but scattered over a large area. Some moved next door to the ranch but the LO ended up buying that ranch about 2 yrs later. So he got his turkey population he wanted finally.
