Thanks for all the advice! I am on an 80 acre lease. I am going to stay as far away from the feeders as possible.

When my suppressors come in the noise won't be as much of an issue grin

Wind plays big factor in noise as well so try not to shoot when it is blowing into your hunting area.

We shoot on our place in a designated area, but I wouldn't want the range to be set up near my stand and wouldn't feel confident hunting a stand that someone is shooting 3-400 yards away at targets. Our place is 10k acres, but I wouldn't like it, during deer season, if I was on a smaller place.

Not saying that it does scare them away though and with enough shooting, the deer will get accustomed to it. I used to hunt down around Proctor over some peanut fields. The ranchers would set off cannons in regular intervals to scare the deer away. While they could sure make me jump, the deer got pretty used to them and wouldn't even flinch. Step on a branch and they would run like the wind confused2

I would say "do what you feel comfortable with."

We are a "working Ranch" with a feed truck that comes by at lunch with a siren to feed the pasture maggots out ( and the deer) so that's why my Ranger comes thru 30 mins later with my Siren and road chummer also rofl rifle

My group is welcome to shoot here at home on our range, but we don't shoot unless it's an emergency there; we do have a designated place though, and it's remote to all the feeders; We also have a handgun/22 range in camp, but it's a mile to the nearest feeder;

In the last ten years, we have had to check guns a few times after being dropped or had a mechanical issue. Nice having a place that we can shoot a couple to check on a rifle.

Same here.

The change in human activity has does more than the shooting. The more time and activity we have at our place the less skittish are the deer. When the actual hunting starts they know it, but like the farmers pickup, they recognize it and don't pay as much attention to it, let a strange pickup show up and they might be gone for the day or weekend.

That's right.

Ours is like that year-round. If the gun goes off it's bc something needed to die. Surrounding places shoot like crazy and when they start hammering away the deer start fleeing from their directions to the thickets.

Ours is like that too for all practical purposes. Once every few years someone will come out during spring or summer and want to shoot a clip of two through some new pistol they bought-and I don't say anything.

Years ago I drew into a hunt at the NRA Whittington Center outside of Raton, NM. We were told gunfire did not affect the deer. But what did they know, just because they monitored every match they had, every pistol, rifle, long range, and black powder, and were there stationed on the property. Not as big a place as some of THF members hunt, seems it was only about 32,000 acres. Course these were mule deer, not white tail.

Never fire a shot unless hunting. We have a relatively small one though. Only 2000 acres.

Been hunting on 1300 acres for 23 years. There is a 250 yd range with a couple of shooting benches. It is at one corner of the ranch. It gets used periodically throughout the year. It has thick cover on 2 sides. I began corning it years ago. Never put up a feeder, just dumped it out of a sack as I drove down the range. More quality bucks have been killed at that spot than any other spot on the ranch,, which includes 8 corn feeders.... Go figure ????

Was it the shooting or the corn that drew in the quality bucks? grin

YUP! REALLY! Troll much?

If you make 3 million a year 300k would be a small amount.

I guess small is relative. What is small to me may not be to you. Neither is wrong. Was on one in La. that was 20k plus and had a proportional number of members. Guess your experience with leases is limited

We have 6 on this one. Sure wouldn't want to hunt 55 acres with too many people.

Not troll I just don't throw out number and play it sounding like its small. Just kinda a duche bag statement you made was all. I don't lease I own my land and hunt and live on it.

Then obviously you are not even qualified to talk about a lease. Talk about a DOUCHE bag statement.
Been on leases a long time.

Look in the classified section on this board. There is a guy looking for up to 10k acres.

I own 1 acre and have to rely on a lease to hunt, guess I should be offended by you throwing out your 55 acres?

Troll away. popcorn

Pretty sure it was the corn. But , I think it's kinda ironic, given the fact that quality bucks are generally on high alert, it is still a decent place to kill a good buck.

Does are about the only thing I've seen that'll lure them Putin the range, but it's never the older bucks, they'll wait in cover to intercept them.

To allot of us that is small! Mines 3 sections and I consider it small compared to other ranches, the big ranch I'm on daily is 42 sections. Mines so small you'll never hear me call it a ranch I just refer to it as my place. When I hear people talking about hunting 40-100 acres it baffles me, sounds like hunting in my back yard. With that said there's a big difference in terrain when comparing West TX to other parts of Texas.

Back on topic. I hunt deer in the morning then chase a few quail until lunch, eat go feed and chase a few while doing that then hunt deer in the evening. I've set and watched deer while this was going on and they just move a safe distance (couple hundred yards) and come back later. Now that 200 yards on a little place can mean completely leaving the property. Keep them well fed and don't worry about it, they will come back.

You sound like my neighbor to the south with 3 blinds on the fence line, 7 deer off of 55 acres! I take (I'm sorry Mrs. B takes) 2 bucks per year and friends or family takes 2 to 3 bucks or does. And they wonder why people Hi-Fence, you make a damn good argument for it.
