I was recently asked what feature I would like to see in upcoming digital scopes. That question was followed by "Don't hold back make it a crazy idea".

So I replied, if you can equip a scope with live streaming capability and host the server on dedicated bandwidth and broadcast only to paid subscribers then that would be AMAZING.

The paid subscription and dedicated servers are to keep the data bandwidth as open as possible to allow for live streaming.

You see what the hunter is seeing realtime, audio would be an added bonus.

The hunters get an online profile, they can list their interests, hunting schedules, targeted animals (game cam photos of known frequent travelers) etc etc. Hunters can become "overnight celebrities".

They'll be able to communicate via sms/text messaging (Chat room style) with all users who are "watching".

Contests, sponsorships, good ole American fun!!!!

No wired connections, IP cameras to wifi servers on property, none of that - the scope is the transmitter and you press a button when you are ready to connect and hunt.

Would you stay out longer on a hunt, walk farther, HUNT HARDER if you had 300 users watching?

Dream Big !

You heard it here first by the way - - - I'll never see a dime from the idea but having the opportunity to participate in something like this sometime in my lifetime would be a treat.

A good point but you don't have to be the active hunter to enjoy this. You have family and friends who hunt? Ever been at home while they're out wondering what is happening?

That's the power of the dream, watching or as jgfireman relates vouyering the hunt

If I understand the proposition correctly, it would not work for me. My cell phone doesn't even work in most of the areas I hunt. When it does work it isn't even 3G.

A satellite connection might work using the Iridium network provided there are no trees. Don't know if it could handle the bandwidth or not.

I love the idea though.

I'd rather have a product that works as advertised, and at a price point that is reflective of true cost, and not price gouging.

You said "Don't hold back make it a crazy idea".

Something like:

That will allow the feed to be streamed via facetime or the like? Nope never been done before... first I ever heard of anything like that. So popular and needed that apparently everyone is doing it. Genius!

Back to my point. I'd rather have a Night Vision system that simply works, and with a price that reflects costs + normal profit not price gouging.

The concept is to have ALL technology built into the scope to do the chore.

That is the innovation part - make it easy for the user.

Not everyone needs attention. Some people (myself included) hunt for a myriad of reasons from the love of the outdoors, solitude, meat, to just enjoying God's creation and have little or no need for the attention factor of 'hey look at me, look at what I'm doing'. We are going to hunt the way we like to hunt, period.

Maybe you just need a little more attention?

Or do you only want attention where it's in agreement with you and in support of your sales? Just be clear so I can be sure to comment in a manner that is pleasing to you.

Again, please do not follow me around like a lost puppy and "TROLL" with comments that don't have a topic related aspect to them such as "Maybe you just need a little more attention"

I mean really? Really... When have you ever heard a full grown man say to another - Are you getting enough attention?

A little creepy if you ask me

When a grown man is acting like a little child, and cannot handle anyone disagreeing. Or maybe it is a grown man that cannot tolerate someone compromising his sales???

In either case, in fairness, I asked if you want me only to be agreeable.

Apparently anyone that posts on a thread that you participate in is following you around? You really are full of yourself Ben.

Back to the topic, that is a stupid idea that has been tried already (you heard it here first - LOL).

Ben, Just tell your employer to provide quality products at a reasonable price. Is that so hard to understand???

Uhhh, not sure why you are so defensive. The product is about getting attention (Look at me!). It's a fair point. Actually, it is the whole point.

To many, "ideas" like this are just testimony to the sad state much of hunting is becoming.

I just got done with another thread with this guy where I did two things:

1) Got defensive with him
2) Came back later and stated I was wrong and answered his questions

So that is why I am now repeating for him to take the personal attack out of his message.

As for the idea - I can value that you think it stinks and I can value that you think it is a fair point made by him.

I'll have to agree to disagree on the too many ideas leads to a sad state of affairs in hunting statement.

Ben is a little sensitive around this time... go easy on him. Don't want him to break down in a hissy fit (again) and start playing the victim card all over again.

It is actually a fine idea, one that has been discussed in various forms over the years. Right now, the technology just seems too far out there for most companies to handle in a user-friendly, hunter-friendly, rifle-friendly package that does not require a 12 year old computer expert to troubleshoot, and for which the company could make a profit in manufacturing such a product.

Don't engage the Trolls, HuntTXHogs. You'll get into a battle over who's the bigger idiot, and they'll beat you with experience.

As for your IDEA - I like it, a lot. But not because I think it's a product of attention seeking. I think of it more in terms of inviting others to share in your experience. Think about it. People who are rained out, or snowed in, could join others in different state - or even a different country - on a virtual hunt or expedition. It would allow people to see what hunting is like in different places they've never been. They may want to go there for real.

I see this as a way to produce your own hunting 'show' or guided experience, even education, without needing to have a production crew making a full-on video or TV show.

I also like the idea of making it a paid subscription service for another reason - It keeps out the trolls, nutjobs, nitpickers and other ne'er-do-wells who do not truly have an interest in sharing your experience, and would ruin it.

For instance... I am not actually a hunter. I enjoy shooting for love of being outdoors, the mental clarity and focus I cannot find in other areas of my life. I also find shooting very cathartic, and calms my weary nerves. I live in a rural area and need to take care of varmints from time to time, and want to be able to deal with it myself.

I often like to do shoot alone. But I also enjoy shooting with friends. If I may go 'one step further' with your idea - while we're dreaming... why not have virtual range shoots, or group hunts? While you certainly could live stream on a channel, I could see such a subscription service also allowing a two-way shared experience, allowing different people in different places to enjoy shooting or hunting in a shared event, much like a video chat or video conference.

Virtual safari, anyone?
