How many seconds do you set your feeders during offseason? We feed protein and corn all year, go through about 6 tons of protein a year and a lot of corn. Usually set the corn feeders for 3 seconds twice a day.

As green as it is right now I have had to turn my feeders down from 5-7 seconds 3 times per day to 2 seconds twice per day. Moved my feeding times to right at dark in the evening and daylight in the mornings and still might have some corn left over. I feed protein free choice year round and have oats/winter pea plots that are getting tall/mature with less grazing pressure. I will not change my feeding times/lengths till late August now.

When do you plant oats and winter peas? I'm in Live Oak County, I'm going to plant this year for the first time, I was planning on planting in late Sept early Oct.

We let our corn feeders run 3 seconds morning and evening year round. They only have corn in them from Sept to mid Jan. We find that the feeder motors, batteries and timers are easier to maintain running year round. We have free range protein from Jan through Sept.

I would probably wait till mid Oct due to heat and army worms. You will know by Sept how much rain you got and how many cold fronts have made it down(if any).

We find that the feeder motors, batteries and timers are easier to maintain running year round. I'm on 12v systems and I do this as well, but move to a once per day 5-10 second run in the off-season. 5 years and going strong, but my solar panels are starting to visually show their age with some cracking, etc. Motors, timers, and batteries are still running strong and batteries show full charge despite solar panel conditions. I get a squeal from time to time from the motors but a shot of Boeshield T-9 or silicone spray on the motor shaft calms the squeal nicely.

3 sec twice a day right now. I usually adjust depending on usage.
