I've been scouting some locations for a new bow stand at our place. I have an old tripod, but I'm considering purchasing a ladder stand. And I was just wondering what everyone thought about a ladder stand versus a hang on style set up???

Thanks in advance for the info

Hang ons, you can set up by yourself. Ladder stands, you may need help. I use hang on my self. In bow hunting, when deer change their patterns, I move stand locations. With a light weight lock on, don't take much time for me to move. Plus, you can install a lock on in cover. Ladder stand, you will have to remove any limbs that will be in the way, exposing you more.

I bought two hang ons this past season but will be switching to ladder stands next season. On the lease I'm at now there aren't any trees that are straight enough to get a hang on to get set up right. The platform was always too tilted to use.

Also, dont forget to factor in the cost of ladder ticks if you dont have a climber.

If the trees are there for it I like Climber stands. Lots of Texas that is not an option. I use ladder stands some but a small 10' or shorter tripod is sure easy to move and tuck into much of the cover on some of the places I hunt.

Ground blinds have their places as well but I prefer to hunt from a tree or tripod, don't feel as closed in. Now when it is raining or cold and windy a ground blind is much more comfortable.

I have several ladder stands and prefer them in many situations. I own lock on stands and a climber but seldom use them. The climber I used in Missouri for a couple of years but I'm about over that. My tripods are valuable tools but often difficult to move and set up quickly and quietly. I do have one that folds up and is relatively light weight and I use that a lot to move around as well. There are some strong, light weight ladder stands out there that are easy to move and set up by one guy. I own two that are this way and I utilize them to adjust to movement patterns created by feed or rut activity. The older I get the more I like something easy to get in and out of.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

Thanks guys. I'm leaning towards using the tripod and maybe getting a ladder stand as we'll. I do t think the trees are really right for a hang on after a second look at the area. Plus, I think I can tuck the tripod into some cedars for some good cover.

I like a tripod with the right set up. I prefer the ladder stands over the lock-on's or climbers though. Good luck up

Depends on the trees on your lease. Due to the correct trees needed for hang on or climbers I use tripods and pop ups.

We have 80% ladder stands up, but keep lock on's for when they are needed and have a couple up right now. Two blinds and three tripods tucked into cedar trees.
We bought three Big Game The Legend 20' Ladder Stands and really like those but they are kind of a bear to get put up into the tree takes two men for sure.

I've wondered about the Ghostblinds but I don't know anyone that has tried one. How has it worked for you what experiences have you had with it out in the field actually hunting. I'm wondering how the deer reacted to it, etc?

I have ladders, lock ons and pop up blinds. For my style of hunting I prefer ladders...

I like tripods because of there versatility. I've only hunted in the western half of the state, where a ladder stand or hang-on will drastically limit your locations because there aren't many trees that will allow you to use one of these types of stand. A tripod, on the other hand, will work anywhere you've got enough cover to hide your figure and movement giving you a lot more choices for stand placement. As far as ground blinds, I guess they'll work just about anywhere, but I prefer to be elevated.

Look at the twisted timber tree stands. If you like lockons. I have used them with great success.
