Without naming names, I sent 2 bobcats and 1 badger to get skinned and tanned on March 4th of 2014. I have called multiple times and they blame the tannery, and say they will check on it and call me back, and then they never do. Is this normal, other than the poor customer service I mean (I work in customer service, I know that isnt normal). I also paid the full amount up front. Any suggestions?

You are closing in on a year....I don't think it should typically take that long...at least not here in VA.
I would ask them the name and phone number of the tannery and what the invoice or transaction number was for your order....it would be interesting if they could show you that (it would at least show they sent it out if they provided you that)...then I'd call the tannery with the info provided and ask what's going on..

They should call you back, thats not right...but anytime I drop an animal off I plan on AT LEAST one year, no matter what the taxi says. Ive got around 30 mounts and I can count on one hand the amount that have come back in less than a year.

I agree a mount taking a year is not that uncommon....but a tannery taking a year is another story.

My mounts have taken from 7-13 months to get back and a lot of that depends on what time of the year the taxi gets them from me or anyone else. The tannery is out of my taxis control if he gets them to them soon after I take the hides to him (for just tanned hides). A good taxi can be swamped if he is doing all the work himself. Really good taxi shops will be a year out on most mounts. Still none of that is an excuse for not calling you back if they say they are going to. Just ask them for the name of the tannery and call them yourself. You will find out quickly if the taxi waffles on giving you that number.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Yeah, I thought it was crazy....I have had mounts take over a year many times (had them take 3 months before many times too). Ill get the tannery's number and see what the deal is. It's like a cluster calling this place, they never know what's going on - I've gotten like 3 different answers. That's what I get for breaking the mold and trying someone new!

A lot depends on the time in which the taxi gets the animal and how busy he is. It probably also depends on if he is on his own or has a shop with other people helping.
The guy I use is usually around 7-12 months depending on that time. My bow buck taken early Oct will be ready in about 7 months. The buck I shot late December one year took a little over a year and he also does everything himself including tanning atleast on the deer.
