Seems every time I see a photo of ISIS with fighters in trucks, it's always Toyota vehicles. I wonder if the marketing directors at Toyota have noticed the same thing and tried to figure out how to explain that.

It's not like Toyota is selling to ISIS or ISIS is going to a dealership. There was a story a few months ago where some south Texas plumber or contractor had traded his work truck in. Then, a year later, it shows up in pictures online and they had never painted over the logo and he had to explain that he traded it in and whoever sold it before it left the country never painted over the logo.

I have wondered that too. I get Toyota is not selling "direct to isis" but I bet they have talked about why they choose their trucks.

I don't really seen any marketing problem at all. It's not like Toyota can control where their product ends up. Remember this story from a few weeks ago where a Houston area plumbing contractor saw his former F-250 being used by ISIS in Syria on the battlefield? It was recognized because is still had the company logo on the side.

There's a lot of Toyota trucks in that whole region. Probably just availability.

We should sell ISIS Dodge trucks on purpose to help shorten the conflict.

I kind of look at this the same as when Bushmaster took a PR hit after Sandy Hook. Bushmaster had no control over that either. I know ISIS isn't walking into a Toyota dealership and buying trucks, but you've got to admit that someone there has seen the same photos and thought, "Oh, crap..."

I think the ISIS using their trucks is almost link a testimony of how strong they are.

I was going to buy a Toyota but I didn't because I didn't want people to think I'm ISIS.

I thought about using the Bushmaster example in my original post. Maybe, but I doubt it went any further than realizing there is nothing you can do. Vehicles are stolen everyday, as evidenced by posts on THF. Everyone says, "sorry, but it's down in Mexico already." Ford isn't taking a hit because F250s are stolen by the cartel. Toyota isn't going to take a hit on this, either.

As someone else said, it's because there are a ton of them in that region. Also, in the link to the plumber story, he sold it and it went to auction, then somehow ended up across the world. Toyota has no way of stopping that.

They walk in and buy cell phones, why not trucks. They have money.

Have been seeing them in all kinds of rough places for years. That's always my thought when I see one.
