River, I don't have the mallards but I do have some pintail & gadwalls and they are ok. I like GHG better, they seem more life like to me in their colors and positions. I use a 1/2 dozen GHG over sized mallards and really like how they look on the water. From what I have seen paint wear is about the same on both brands.

G and H. Murican manufacturing. Tough and lifelike decoys. What else is there? Chinese is you other choice.

G and H are probably the most durable plastic decoys you can buy, but are some of the least realistic decoys on the market IMO. They are also on the higher end of the price range. I like GHG and Avian X. I own some G&H decoys (2 dozen or so), but I just think they look very cartoonish compared to the rest of my decoys. GHG has had paint adhesion issues in the past, but none of the 12 dozen or so that I have purchased in the last 5 years have had paint issues, and I have all of them Texas rigged or in a standard decoy bag so they are not babied. Some of my older GHG decoys did have issues with paint flaking off, though. Final Approach decoys are ok, but I would get some GHG or Avian X if I were you.

I've been trying to figure out which decoys I want to get. I've seen people that are die hard GHG and those who despise all GHG/Avery.

I had a mix of G&H and GHG till about five years ago when my then 12 YO son told me, "Dad, the GHG decoys look like ducks. The G&H decoys look like decoys." Did have paint issues on the first batch of GHG but had no paint issues with anything bought in the last few years.

I don't know why everyone thinks G&H is so expensive. For Avian-x and GHG ("Economy" brand decoys) you're paying $60-$80 per half dozen decoys. For a dozen that's $120-$160 which is no more expensive than G&H decoys. Look for good deals, I picked up a dozen G&H Magnum Swivel Mallards on sale for $30 less than retail + free ship.

Full retail for GHG hot buy mallards is $60 a DOZEN and they look more like a mallard than the G&H mallards. Yes, the GHG pro-grade decoys are usually around $60 a half dozen depending on species but that is still less than a dozen G&H decoys and they look WAY more like a duck. I own some G&H decoys, so obviously I don't hate them. I just think the blind fan-boy love for G&H is funny on this forum. They are pricy for how cheesy they look. You can get better looking decoys for less. Dakotas are expensive, yeah, but they look like dang works of art so I can see the price as justified. I guess my point is that IMO G&H decoys should look better than they do since they are on the higher end price wise.

I shoot just as many ducks over G&H, as I have Dakota, Flambeau, GHG, Carry-Lites etc. What it comes down to me is; what can I pay for ONE time, and be sure it will last as long as possible. I could really care less who makes the decoy.

What finally did it for me is we have to decide as a nation where we are headed. I can't say I never spend money on Chinese, but I do try to buy American. I went to buy a pto driven tiller at Tractor supply the other day. Made in China stamped on the damn thing. I told the salesperson I aint buying a chinese made farm implement. I dang sure don't want my decoys made in China.
So far as looks of the decoys, I don't like G and H teal I have to admit. They just look halfbaked so far as detail oriented. The G and H widgeon is probably the best one I have ever seen. Like GR stated, standing back and looking at a spread they look perfect.

Well, if anything your argument supports using more lifelike decoys as ducks are known to see much better than humans. They can see detail at a much greater distance than we can. Ducks see about 3 times better than we do.

I personally can tell the difference easily at 30-40 yards, and research tells us that ducks can tell the difference from 2-3 times the range that we can. Now, whether that effects there decision to decoy or not we will never know because we can't get inside their heads.
