This is the scope that I want to top off my 24" barrel AR platform 308 build. It will be my first FFP scope. I want to sight it in at 200 and hopefully be able to shoot up to 600. I plan on using Talley Tactical Picatinny-Style Rings. I am leaning toward the EBR-2C MRAD Reticle. It has 19 mrad of elevation. Will that be enough to get me to 600 yards with a 200 zero? Is this the right scope for the price range? The right reticle? Thanks in advance.

Thanks,
John

Turrets and reticle are perfect. Consider the 4-16X so you have a lower low end. I have the 6-24, and it is a long scope, and there have been times I'd like to have a lower low end, but that's the only complaint.

These scopes need to be zeroed at 100 yards so that you have no wind error, and less shooter error. Plus you are ALWAYS dialing up. This is the reason this scope and many others have zero stop. Your turret is set so that when you dial all the way down to your 100 yard zero it won't allow you any down travel. More importantly, when you get on the second revolution (over 5.0 Mils) and if you forget what rev you're on, dial it down until it won't let you go any lower.

It is designed to be mounted on a 20 MOA base, so be sure and get a 20 MOA one piece picatinny rail.

Your elevation corrections on an AR-10 shooting a 178 gr. around +/- 2600 fps will be:

200 yards +.5 Mil
300 yards +1.3 Mil
400 yards +2.3 Mil
500 yards +3.4 Mil
600 yards +4.6 Mil
700 yards +6.0 Mil
800 yards +7.5 Mil
900 yards +9.3 Mil
1000 yards +11.2 Mil

You'll still have more travel left to push that bullet beyond its's supersonice range, and you're not even talking about doing that anyway.

I use EGW on my bolt actions. I've never had to put a 20 MOA on an AR. But here is what EGW lists.

I retract the EGW. Less parts with the Aadmount. Pricey, but I've spent that between base and rings combined on several bolt actions. The scope has to be securely mounted to the rifle, or you'll always fight it.

You may not need a cantilever mount on an ar10:

good stuff here too

This one is my favorite 20 MOA cantilever mount that I own: AADMOUNT

I also have the GDI mentioned above and it's meh... and no I did not pay their ridiculous price and even still it's meh. I think the concensus is that GDI is crazy expensive so it must be that much better than everyone else, and NO; it's no better or worse than the other premium mounts.

Plenty of options out there, but back to my original point the AADMOUNT is my favorite.

A 200 yard zero should be almost the same as a 50 yards zero. I have one of the 6-24's with the FFP, think you'll like it.

The best way to setup for long range shooting is get some ballistics software. For you iPhone or Android, there is a program called Shooter. You can enter all your data, and their is a bullet selection library in the App, if you don't see your particular bullet, you can enter all the data.

You will need to know your velocity, so run some rounds over the chronograph. Once everything is in, test it at different ranges for click adjustments on the turrets. You can fine tune the app for that particular load.

Then once you have a target, laser range find it and shoot it. I use a Kestrel for my long range shooting after ranging the distance. The Kestrel I have has the built in wind meter, but need to be cautious with using it as the wind where you are shooting from and on the way to the target usually changes. But it gives me all the data I need and automatically adjusts for temperature, barometric pressure, etc etc.

Aadmount would be my choice as well. I was just giving you options. RockfishDave is the first person I have seen speak ill of the GDI mount, I respect an honest opinion that may go against the grain.

And one last question. Why the heck hasn't alamo four star released a 20 moa model yet? They make excellent stuff right here in our great state.

Thanks guys. A lot of good information. As long as availability in the near future permits, I will go with this scope and the aadmount. Thanks again for all the help.

Thanks,
John

Just to clarify:

I'm not saying that it is bad mount, just on par with the other premium mounts out there and it is priced rediculusly higher than the competition.
