Ok as stated I've never turkey hunted before. I did read a bunch of threads so I'm not totally ignorant. Here's my situation. I can hunt a little 25 acre spot in centerpoint. I stopped deer hunting there cause it was just too small and I've got a way better place to hunt now BUT......everytime I hunted that place I was constantly surrounded by gobbling turkeys. They ran around all over chasing each other and whatnot. I never had an interest in killing one til I ate some turkey sausage last week and now I'm interested lol. So.....do I just get a decoy and sit and call one in? Also, I have a bow and a rifle but obviously I can't use the rifle. Any suggestions on a broadhead for turkeys or what kind of shotgun and ammo to get?

Decoys aren't necessary, but help. I use them, but I killed a ton of turkeys long before I ever had them.

Any full choked shotgun will work..12 or 20 gauge. If it has screw in chokes, even better, as you can get a turkey choke.

Lots of folks liking the new Winchester Longbeard XR loads made specifically for turkeys.

Whatever gun you get or already own, make sure you check that the point of aim and point of impact are one in the same with the ammo you are going to use hunting. If they are not, I recommend installing some rifle sights so you can adjust.

Bowhunting.....darn difficult to come to full draw without getting spotted with a group of turkeys on top of you. If you already have a ground blind, all the more fun.

Main thing... Keep it simple and have fun...turkeys aren't brain surgeons.

Good luck and good hunting.

If you are shotgun hunting, yes...aim at the base of the waddles, with the neck in an extended position. That will give good coverage to the neck and head area. I try to never shoot a tom in strut.

If bowhunting, you want a body shot that takes a wing(s) out.
