Well we are here now and let me tell you. I have seen more bobs today than in the last 20 years. I grew up in some of the greatest quail hunting in texas but like the rest of us for what ever reason havnt seen one in almost 20 years there. Until last week I hope this comeback keeps going. I have been going way west for blues lots of fun but I want my back yard birds back. Ok back to my problem today one covey 12 birds one 25 one over 30 at least only few shots you can take looking in awe again of the great bobwhite flush. Now I didn't watch were they went lol. Finally did get up some of the pairs and fours that broke away. Just didn't get many shots as lot of birds few groups. Did get a nice bunny for chicken fry though:). Hope they stay broke up till in the morning can flush fewer at a time. I told my buddy I would have done this to not even shoot. So great to see bobs roaming around again. And hey I'm going to have a killer batch of quail and rice when I get home regardless of tomorrow. I don't run dogs I run lol my buddy said I looked like a mnt goat all day. If they would have been smaller bunches I would have done real well. Tell you the truth didn't even fire at the first buch of 12 just watched. Great site.

Umm, I think that guy that shot 15 last week spent 3 days there. We went and shot a few last weekend. The birds are recovering on the gene howe after 8 years of terrible #'s, but the cover is much taller, thicker, and stickery than anyone can remember it ever being. I would rate the bird hunting a 3-3.5 on a scale of 10. 10 being the best I've seen it on the gene howe. A few birds, but lots of escape cover for those birds. Most guys I've talked to are averaging 2-3 birds per day. Maybe we will see you out there tomorrow. Have you been to the matador this year? I heard they had an outstanding late hatch this year.

North east panhandle yea I always wonder what biologist tell you. Like I say only getting three shots at a bunch of birds you don't get many over all. But it is really good seeing wild bobs again. I would have made the trip to see one covey tell you the truth.

That's out of my driving range and I'm pretty well set here. Seems like a good road trip for people in the Dallas area.

The quail will covey back up to roost.

Well I am on the road back. I'm just give out no telling how many miles I walked/jogged today we never flushed a single bird never heard any. I guess just lucked into those groups may have been every bird from the hole place for some source there. As they were close together. We tried the river side went all over every other pasture not a single bird. Going out to the other side we decided to go around each pasture and 4x4 road never saw a covey running or cross the road. Kgbil I think you were right I noticed the cards there are for check out of your stay that guy may have been there two weeks to get 15 lol. Oh well may not have been worth the drive got tricked early by getting lucky. we really try not to leave hulls I know it happens some times. But to make up for and we miss we pick up what we find. My buddy mentions you know hasn't been to much shootin in here he found two hulls and I found one that was sun faded and looked like a cow got it. Opening day of dove season I filled the walmart I brought my shells with with empty hulls from other e's and they were sitting in a chair. Shouldn't have been one. Oh well I guess we head back to black gap I can go out there and be happy not killing a bird such breath taking country.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that y'all didn't get on them today. Those birds are hunted HARD, and they are wilder than any I've chased year in and year out. They will start running and break covey the instant they hear you, and covey back up as soon as you pass. With no dogs I'll bet you had birds running around you a bit. I'd like to check black gap out I bet it is pretty country down there.

You've never seen me run lol I flush blues at black gap just fine. They are like what the heck kind of crazy crap is coming after us haha. Black gap is very stark at first look but when you get closer there are some I the most beautiful cactus plants and rock outcrops you have ever seen. Giant mule deer big horns it is an amazing place worth every bit of the drive birds or no birds they were looking up this year out there you can see the blues running from a long way at black gap you just have to catch up.
