Say you had been trying to get a good shot on an axis buck and he has a mark on him that's easy to pick him out and a rack that has one side that is crazy so you want him in the wall. You get out to hunt him and he has dropped horns and you found both sheds. He now is coming into corn, would you shoot him and still have mounted since you have his horns? Having this discussion with couple friends at camp.

Depends on how bad you want the mount of him.

Hell no. What's the matter with you! LOL just kidding. How bout take the antlers and mount them on a metal skull which looks kinda cool anyway. Mount the real thing when you knock him down later this year.

If he's that good let him walk and grow another rack because he might get even better. Take your sheds and kill a cull buck and mount the sheds on the culls cape! Baker

Let him walk. You have your horns. Give him and you some time.

Every time you looked at the mount, you'd know. Do it the hard way.

I'd pass

Nope, it would be along the lines of shooting that trophy Blue Wing Teal or Tree duck in February..... even if there is no season on Axis

I will weigh in on this discussion. I have three large bucks currently halfway through or more with their antler growth that will reach well into 30". I am patiently waiting til they are hard horned which should be in a couple of months.....its TORTURE but I know it'll be worth it.
