We spent the weekend at the Texas Hawking Association annual meet. It was a very busy meet for me as I'm an officer in the club. We were able to do some duck hawking on a fantastic ranch. It was a very large piece of land with lots of ponds in the open and lots of ducks. Most of the longwingers (guys who fly falcons) in the club were able to get out there. Duck species caught at this property during the meet included green winged teal, shoveler, ringneck, wigeon, pintail, and canvasback. I'm sure a gadwall was caught somewhere in there as well.

My girlfriend has been doing a great job with her immature Harris's Hawk we trapped in October, so we encouraged her to handle the falcon off the glove and go through the process. She had never flown a longwing until this day and did an excellent job; managing the flush and bringing a teal to the bag. She's a second year falconry apprentice and having fun. I snuck in a photo of a rabbit she caught later in the day after the duck hawking.
