They should have stated that the scope was still in development and that any who bought it would be considered "early adopters". For $600, even at the current firmware level, this scope is still an exceptional purchase and fully capable. Unless you have one of the f'ed up mounts. I'd rather have what I have vs waiting for the altitude and fish finder functions to be enabled. Charlie

Still waiting on a 3x and 5x that I paid for this Summer. regarding all the bells and whistles, I can do without GPS, Image Stabilization (that scares me), a compass, etc. Actually, I hope I can turn those features off, as I'd rather have the Obsidian OS and small CPU focusing on things that matter to me like smooth video and an accurate reticle.
The zooming issues scare the heck out of me. I hope those get fixed soon. The other stuff I can live without. I paid about $520ea, so I can be a bit patient.
Now, I wonder if I'll ever get my units?

All, My appology was for my lack of skills in posting.
Regarding the keeping of archival copies of the firmware, I'll bet they do. No real developers don't. I wasn't knocking Sachal at all. He's a good guy. As for ATN's development accumen, this was a far more complex project than their other undertakings. I reckon their past successes made them over confident.
Regarding the danger of reverting to older versions, there are several methods of accomplishing firmware updates. You can do an "on the fly edit" of the in place firmware (Very difficult), you can do a complete replacement of the complete firmware (easy) or you can, if so designed, replace modules in the firmware rather than replacing the whole thing (difficult). In smaller firmware situations as we have here, it is more common to replace the whole thing. This makes QA testing easier. If there are no other programmable elements in the device which are altered by the update process, the rollback shouldn't present any danger (MAYBE!!)
Someone who is curious enough about the rollback possibilities and has a relationship with Sachal could get him to pose the question to ATN's development staff and get them to test it for us (yes I have a 5-18x so I can say "US").
Anywho, having said that, the rollback is a minor thing. I want the fish finder! Or even better the BDC (difficult??!! Wanna see it done! I'll give them many many points for clever if the "C" in "BDC" stands for compensator. Heck I'll even take calculator.)
MoShootr, You have probably run across the old IT saying: "The first 90% of the project takes the first 90% of the time. The last 10% takes the other 90%." This is quite likely what has taken place here. Do you program firmware embedded devices? If so, I might just PM you (Later when some/all issues are resolved) some observations I have made regarding this device. Ever done any hacking of embedded devices?
Well, I better shut up and go away. It might be deemed unseemly for a Greenhorn to wax so loquacious. Just my two cents. Later..... MM

Man, lot of words, more like 78 cents... Going backwards on firmware is rarely done for the obvious reasons. If they release a version of bad code, it's far easier and more common to release another "new" release fixing/removing the bad code. Just ask Apple. I'd find something else to worry about. Charlie

CharlieCTx, Don't know what's been going on in IT since November 2013 when I retired after 30+ years in IT but prior to that we quite often went back to a previous version just to get up and running while the developers figured out what they did wrong and got it fixed. The world doesn't stop for programming errors or didn't used to. I wasn't worried, just addressing someone's (several someones') expressed concerns regarding backing out of a bad upgrade. OOPS, If your count was right, I'm up to about a buck and a quarter now. Will be more careful in the future. Have a good evening, MM

Hello all I want to add the flicker in my scope was there when I bought it then after the .200 update and putting a UNV 20-IR on it was gone well I don't know why but last night it came back im going to change batteries in the scope and IR and see if that takes café of it. Also I cant zoom past 2.5x when the reticle goes off the screen mine goes down and to the right but for now it is working and I am able to make shots at night and video I just hope all this gets straightened out soon. It is a nice scope for the money but will be a whole lot nicer when everything is fixed. Mike

UPDATE ON ATN FIRMWARE STATUS As always we pass on consumer comments to ATN Corp, and as of yesterday we wrote a firm letter requesting that the firmware update which was promised to our customers by the CEO in his recent open letter, is confirmed to us in terms of a release date. We had a reply from ATN advising that our contact is meeting with Marc Vayn today and we will have an update later today. We have every faith in ATN Corp that they will deliver their promises, and X Sight owners will be very happy with their purchase. I quote Marc Vayn CEO again "Currently our engineers are working an a major update that will no longer shift the reticle but the entire screen behind the reticle - when finished no amount of zoom will move your reticle of center. The algorithms for this work have already been complete and only the testing and bug clean up remains."
I'm a terrible shot but I follow up with a grenade!

Thanks When everything gets fixed I will buy another one for my 358MGP when I get down to visit my cousin in Texas to do some hog hunting. Coondog on 68 forums has shot a few hogs with his 358MGP and is very impressed with it but I cant wait to shoot some myself

Staff Scott-Country 6 minutes ago I have spoken to ATN directly at their booth at The Shot Show today, and they are currently uploading the new firmware to their X Sight devices on the stand. As soon as my contact has confirmation of when the upload to ATN's website will take place, he has assured me he will let me know. I will of course pass on any info I have when i receive it. Have a nice evening Regards Paul

Well I've got a problem that I don't think has been mentioned. My scope is causing huge 2 to 3 foot groups at 100 yards. Shots wander all over the backstop both vertically and horizontally. The mount is very tight on the gun, and this particular gun very shoots nice groups when the X-Sight is removed and replaced by another optic. I did notice after I got home that I can get the scope to move ever so slightly between the scope body and mount if I apply very firm side to side pressure on the front of the scope. This slight movement might translate to a twenty thousandth of deflection at the absolute most and it's probably less. Sure it's enough to string the shots slightly in the horizontal plane, but there is zero up and down movement in the scope and I get vertical shot stringing too. I wonder if the camera in the scope could be loose in its mounting? Has anyone removed their objective to look inside the scope body? It looks like it would come off in the same manner that ATN describes removal of the ocular lens for cleaning the screen/monitor that's behind it.

Dismount it and tighten the 2 screws on the bottom. use locktight ( I use blue) on the threads. WHile you have it off the weapon take the 2 small phillips screws out pull the tab off and check the flat head screw for tightness as well. If it has horizontal movement it WIll also have vertical movement as well.

As Shadow has said, just sounds like something's loose on the mounts somewhere.

I just encountered a new issue with my 5-18, and was wondering if anyone else has seen it in their scopes. I power the scope up, and while going through the various functions to familiarize myself with the control buttons (while looking through the scope), when suddenly the scope powers off. I check the lithium batteries and find that two of them are totally discharged, and two of them read "OK" on my analog battery tester. The two that read OK are the two with the positive terminals facing out of the battery compartment. I replace all 4 batteries with fresh lithiums (Energizer Ultimate Lithium), power up, and 15-20 minutes later, the same thing happens. I'm not using GPS or WiFi; I'm not taking video; I am taking an occasional still photograph. But mainly I'm going through the menu, one item at a time, to memorize the controls. Any ideas/suggestions on what might be happening? I've had the scope a bit less than a month and this issue just surfaced last night.

Remember, we were already told: this will only add video crosshairs and a basic form of BDC (whatever that means).
Unless they are skipping that version and jumping right to their mythical "2.0" firmware, no/ few other issues will be addressed.

I have kept a check and read every post on this thread and appreciate everyone. I have been able to set up my 5-18 (with same issues) because of it. Set up at least as far as I can go without the firmware updates. I too have a mount off by a hair but the reticle center update should fix that.
Will anyone really use the Altitude or Velocity? It's almost novelty. I don't need to know how fast I'm moving while hunting. Or how high or low I am. I DO need to see crosshairs and a non flashing screen, ha. Priorities...
