How is it a wild bird if there are no native birds? Don't beat me up just a question.

I don't think he called it a wild bird, only that is was shot in the wild. I could be wrong though.

He said "In the wild" but even if he said the bird "was wild" that would still be accurate. Just because it's not native does not mean it's not wild.

Shot in Wise County

For the record, this bird came in by himself and not with any wood ducks, he had also been spotted a week ago on local reservoir North of Fort Worth. It could also be two entirely different ducks, but I doubt it, or I think it would be highly unlikely.

It would be an escapee from someones pond or aviary. Couple years ago on a public lake I killed a greylag that had been flying with some resident canadas. Never know what you might find out flying free near the metromess. That Mandarin was not a cheap one.

Very cool. Does it have one of its dew claw toes clipped off. Legally all pen raised birds are supposed to be toe clipped. If not then it's likely a second generation. Just like Egyptian geese, mandarins do just fine in the wild.

No clipped claws, that lead me to believe it is at least a second generation hatchling from a pen raised pair.

It would make beautiful mount. If off public water, I would be surprised if it was not a known individual bird with the bird watcher types and they are already wondering what happened to it.

Cool link! In addition to the mandarin I buy from them, I may just get a cinny teal, hoodie, and you can't forget the Uncle Jimmy's Pecker Recker!!

That is one gorgeous duck, the last one of those I saw was at the fountain at North Park Mall in Dallas. I had a pair about to swim into grabbing range when a kid threw an action figure at them and they flared.

This must go on the wall. One of the most beautiful birds out there.

We are fortunate enough to have a couple pair of them visiting us regularly from March until July or so each year.
