Ok, I just wanted to give you my update. I only had 7 rounds left from yesterday. I went out with the old batteries in the X sight, I tightened down the cap as tight as I could get it. Fired 7 rounds with no fails with the original batteries in, I also turned on WiFi,GPS and record just to have some drain and batteries. So there you go, Looks like perhaps when I had the screen lock up and I had to loosen the cap to get unit to power off I may not have tightened the cap all the way. At this point I am going to hang on to the scope until I can go out next week and fire more shots to be sure. I want to be clear with everyone, I really do like this scope and I want it to work out just fine. It just has to work for me so I can get some meat. In this case looks like the cap just wasn't on tight enough. So if anyone is having this problem. Just let us know if you crank down on the cap and the problem clears up then it will confirm our suspicions.

I totally agree with Cyberpyrot; I would much rather have this scope in hand with a few glitches, that I believe will all be resolved with subsequent firmware downloads, than wait without the ability to "play" with it until ATN resolves all issues that are initially inherent in such a complex platform. With that, I hope the recorded cross hair and zero issues are soon to be resolved.

Been lurking, and learning a lot about the xsight on this and other forums. Thanks to all. Joined to follow this thread. I have updated my 5x to .200, have black buttons with white lettering, have no night flicker, or screen shutoff when firing my .308. I got confused and ran out of daylight when trying to do the "zero" again at 100yds after an initial zero at 50, and have not for the life of me been able to get it to take a pic or vid. Other than that, I like the unit, and look forward to hunting with it.

TomH FW: I too thought I had a recording issue, but learned from ATN, that although the ability to view the recorded images through the scope itself was not working (a known issue), I was able to view images and recordings by taking the SD card out and viewing them on my PC.

Hunt'n: Thanks. I did pull the card, and put in my MacBookPro. It did not show anything in the DCIM folder. I will try again tonight or tomorrow, and put the sd micro into a pc to see if that makes any diff. I would try it today but they won't let me bring my AR10 into the office building!

In case anyone hasn't yet seen it, the below is an open letter from the CEO of ATN posted on their facebook page today:

An open letter from ATN Corp CEO, Marc Vayn:

"We at ATN appreciate all the early adopters of our new X-Sight. The X-Sight is really like nothing we have ever developed! The sophistication of the Obsidian Core has offered us a world of possibilities never before witnessed in our industry. It has also posed a series of challenges that we are working quickly to overcome.

One of these has been Reticle shifting out of view at high levels of zoom. First let me assure you this is NOT a hardware issue and will be resolved within the shortest time possible in the form of an updated firmware.

Part of the issue has arisen due to the fact that our engineers removed the original limitation of 4X digital (example 5-18). Instead the 5-18 is now 5-50. Our engineers felt that even at 50X, the resolution of the image was still good enough to provide additional detection. Unfortunately in the first release of our Reticle Zeroing we shifted the reticle by moving it on the screen reticle and thereby it would always be of center. This problem was then exacerbated by high zoom - in essence shifting the reticle up 10X the original Zeroing In. On weapons with more then just a minor shift from dead center this created a problem of having the reticle fly of the screen when zooming in.

Currently our engineers are working on a major update that will no longer shift the reticle but the entire screen behind the reticle - when finished no amount of zoom will move your reticle of center. The algorithms for this work have already been complete and only the testing and bug clean up remains. As an added bonus we will also be including a number of our early Smart Shooting Solutions into this version (Hint: think intelligent bullet drop compensation and much much more.)

Again, I would like to apologize from me and our development team for shipping the X-Sight with these types of issues. We hope that our fixes and new features that are to be released throughout the year will make up for some initial difficulties.

Sincerely,
Marc Vayn
CEO, ATN Corp."

Hey Guys,
I got my 5-18 last week, and am having the same issues as mentioned here.... Reticals not centered (need to shim) shut down during fireing (.308 AR-10) , button somewhat unresponsive, Battery hog, drains them when in off mode..... But like a beaten wife..... I still love it!

I would like to upgrade the firmware.. To 200 (got 174 now) .. But my computer's media player is incorrect to download to the scope.... Does anyone know what I need to make this work..... (I am not a computer genius!)
But I assume I need a new codex???

I have the Ap on my phone and IPad can I use them to update the firmware?

Thanks!
Fred

welcome

I have never seen so many new users join a forum for a particular discussion or product.

Goodluck everyone with the X-sight and if it doesn't work out for you be sure to stick around for all the other hunting and product discussions!

Do you still have your X-sight or did you ditch it?

I still have my X-sight and have no intention of ditching it! The function it provides, even with the issues it has, is amazing. I'm convinced that once ATN gets all these issues rectified, the X-Sights are truly going to become the "game changers" that folks talked about when it was first announced. I can't imagine what additional capabilities they're going to be able to provide with the Obsidian core. Hold on to your hats and your hunting chairs, folks; it's gonna be a ride!!

I returned it to the dealer as the mount was off just enough to cause a 2-3 ft point of impact shift left.

Awaiting a replacement and still a "user" of the X-sight.

Good deal. Sounds like we're in the same boat with the mount. I'm awaiting a replacement from ATN as we speak.

When yo go to the firmware page and click the link are you also clicking the "save" button or "open" button? You shouldnt need a media player or codec to use this. Simply download (save) to your computer then copy it to your (formatted) sd card. Insert it into the scope and turn on. It should then start loading it to the scope. If it hangs up on you after about 5 or so minutes and you have no control over the scope then you will need to take the battery cover off and remove the sd card. Replace the cover and power back up it should start the update. I had to do the same and the above is what ATN told me to do and all is well as to the firmware upgrade.

All,
I am sorry for not being active here. I have gotten few calls about the scope shutting off from recoil.

When you replace batteries on the scope, please make sure you tighten the battery cap all the way. Every customer that I told this to, didnt have any shut off after that.

Thank you!

Another update.

We are almost caught up on the 5-18x.

As for the 3-12, around few thousand new scopes are being shipped middle of next week. These new scopes would have the latest firmware with manual focus and sun shade.

As for the firmware, are also planning on releasing another firmware update early next week.

Thank you!

Satchel, have there been any other cases with the sd card not being retained?

Welcome back Sachal, And thanks for your help the other day. I fired 7 rounds and the scope did not turn off. I need to reload more rounds. I updated Aaron in your office via e mail.

When you say "shipped," do you mean from China to ATN, or from ATN to distributors?

No it won't even sit in the port I had to hold the card down with my finger to update firmware.

Are you trying to push it in with your finger? Try it with a pin and see if goes down enough to click.

Thanks!
