So this is has been my first season getting out and really trying to hunt some birds. Its totally ruined my deer season and feels more like a disease that has taken hold of me than a passion - I am dreaming of decoy spreads, jerk rigs and looking at every pond I drive by which might be more dangerous than texting. Anyway thought I'd share a few pics. My son got us started and the highlight and what really did it for me was a goose hunting trip to the Eastern Shore of Maryland that I was able to add on to a work trip to DC. It was incredible!

Maryland Trip

Ducks off deer lease pond

Our first duck was a ringneck - my son was bored from being in the deer blind - the duck that got us started!

Like mohunter said it gets worse. When the season ends, its horrible and you immediately start figuring out when early Teal will be here.

Nice pics.

A long stretch of depression can set in once season ends but I try to replace that by catching those monster blue cats that will be roaming the shallows chasing huge gizzard shad. If any of you guys run these shallow flats on our lakes you know what I am talking about because I am sure you are running them out at times.

Nothing like fighting a 50lb blue cat in 1-2 feet of water in standing timber.

Ha - I recall thinking early Teal season was dumb and now am kicking myself for ignoring it.

Fishing is always a good option. I'm also going to see if I can get anything to grow in that mud-pit you see behind us in the ring-neck pic. Was looking at the Mossy Oak Guides Choice mix...

Are those Canadian Decoys Stuffers?

They are real good looking decoys.

Yeah - the guide I used made them all himself - I helped them setup a field later in the day and they had tons more stuffers, silhouettes and these three-silhouette rigs...

Hey sir! Glad to hear you've had a great season. If you don't mind me asking, where and with which guide did you go with in MD? I was born and raised on the eastern shore of MD!

So I went with two outfitters - one out of Easton & one out of Chestertown which was Chesapeake Guide Service .

The other outfitter was OK - nothing negative but the guys at Chesapeake were awesome, worked hard and made changes when the birds didn't want to cooperate and were nice enough to fit me into a group which saved me $ on the hunt. Our guide Andy & his dog Ruger were both very tolerant of all of my rookie questions.

Highly recommend them!

Haha that's awesome! I was born in Easton and raised about 10 minutes outside of Chestertown. My father in law is a guide at Chesapeake guide service. Glad you had fun!

Just a few more from the past weekend - seems like some new birds have moved into the area!
