My brother and I were sitting in a stand with very little movement around it. A fox finally moved in and kept us entertained eating corn for a while. When the fox moved off, I noticed a couple of black dots over a couple of ridges about 900+ yards out. I put up my glasses and, as bad as my eyesight is, could tell these were a couple of good sized rams.

After another thirty minutes of watching them and no action at our feeder, my brother jumped up, grabbed his rifle and took off on foot. It was hilarious watching him creep around brush piles and through mesquite thickets.

When he crossed over the first ridge, I lost sight of him. Meanwhile, the two rams worked their way down into the valley between the second and third ridge.

I caught a glimpse of my brother as he rounded the second ridge. Just as I lost sight of him again, I noticed a coyote moving through the brush down near the feeder in front of me.

After the coyote gave me a couple of broadside peeks, I'm in a dilemma. Do I take a shot at the yote and possibly screw up my brother's hunt or not? I decided to wait for a shot report from my brother's direction before taking on the yote.

A few minutes later, I heard a shot. Problem was, so did the coyote. Poof, he was gone.

About thirty minutes later, here comes my brother looking all dejected. As he climbed up in the stand, shaking his head, I asked if he got the ram. He looked at me as if I'd insulted him and said of course, he gotten the ram.

He said he heard the rams moving toward him and this bad boy stepped into an opening and stopped dead. 15 yard broadside shot after an 800+ yard stalk!

Wow! Great sheep

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
