My son and I are looking to get some gloves that are water proof, wind proof and warm but also thin enough to use while shooting. I am thinking about a wool 1/2 finger glove as an insert with a neoprene glove as an outer shell. What gloves do y'all use and how do you like them?

Only neoprene are totally waterproof. Cabelas and UA are good gloves. Have multiple pairs.

lol. Let me add to that. This is my first year seriously duck hunting and what I have done so far (sense we have not had really cold weather yet) is put a couple hand warmers in the chest pocket on the waders. Keeps the hands warm enough for me. I try to go without gloves if possible.

Don't take it so hard, Duck Commando Keyboard Cowboy. It's not about toughness. Its gun handling safety. Never worn em and never will. They make pockets to keep hands warm. I need all the dexterity I can muster and choose not to hamstring myself with gloves.

On most duck hunts, I don't use gloves (can't call with them on). I like to use a hand muff to put my hands inside while not calling or shooting. If cold, I put hand warmers in the muff...if really cold, I break out the electric heated hand muff. I have two batteries for it and that will last me 6 hours on high.

On late season hunts where I call very little. I might put on some water proof shooting gloves or Camo Skins, depending on what is in the gear bag. For the most part, I am just not a glove person while duck hunting.

I use under armour I have two different pairs of them one are called the glove inserts the other are the actual gloves. I have the thin ones which are great when it's warmer and I also have the thicker ones for cold cold days. Ebay has the thin ones the cheapest and cabelas has the thicker ones the cheapest.

I have tried wearing gloves and always end up taking them off so I quit. I don't like calling, shooting or loading shells with them on. I just keep my hands in my pockets. My friend just got some neoprene decoy gloves though that I will be investing in soon. About the only time my hands get really cold is when picking up decoys.

Honestly the decoy gloves would probably be about as good as anything else to wear hunting. I think they were game winner brand. Camo, tight fitting, waterproof and thick enough they wouldn't hang up in your gun loading shells.

Sitka decoy gloves for decoys/picking up/super cold days. Had a hook up on these.

Under Armour shooting gloves while hunting (they have like 900 different pairs, mine have a fold back trigger finger)

Before those I had a pair of redhead elbow length gore-tex gloves that worked well as an all-around.

Sitka, Under Armour and Browning (dirty bird) all make a very similar decoy glove and work pretty good. I really like the PVC with 100 gram thinsulate glove that Midwest makes. We have a hard time keeping them in stock. They are the least expensive decoy glove we carry and probably the most water proof. We have yet to test a neoprene glove that passes our water proof test.

I couldn't find it on Cabela's (sold out) here it is at Macks: http://www.mackspw.com/Item--i-MQG330

98% of the time I use brown rag wool 1/2 finger gloves.

Every couple fe years to will be cold enough to use full finger gloves. Those are also wool. Of course, things are starting to freeze up pretty good before these come out.

I had all those fancy neoprene and goretex gloves. My hands were always cold.

I agree with the comment about gun safety. The last time I had to use full finger gloves to shoot was about three years ago. It was fun watching the ducks bounce of the ice.

Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

Ok. I also do a ton of winter bass fishing where dexterity and feel is needed and it is just as cold and you are less protected than duck hunting. Finding a good glove is tough! If it has all the protection you can't do anything with it but pull a trigger. Best thing I've found is using a standard Nitrile or latex glove base layer then put fingerless fleece or wool glove on top. Sounds weird but it works!

I just bought a pair of aqua lunge thermocline gloves. I wore them home to see how they feel and so far not bad. I can get keys out of pockets, start the car, buckle and unbuckle seat belt, grab a soda can switch hands and take a drink switch hands and put the can in the holder. They grip the shotgun pretty good.I did not sweat in them coming home but I only wore them about 15 min but it was very warm in the car. It will be late next week before I can really test them out in the cold but I will finish the review then. My plan is wool 1/2 finger gloves when it is not to cold, wool full finger gloves when it is cold but not raining or the wind is not real bad and the aqua lunge gloves when it is very cold and nasty.
