Went for a few days on a buddy's lease in Bandera.
He let me take a cull spike and a doe so now I have venison!
Anyway, I've never seen so many deer in one place in my life.
Every time I sat in a blind, I saw over a dozen whitetail, including some nice bucks
AND some really nice Axis deer and Blackbuck.
There was even whitetail and Axis milling around in the neighborhoods of Bandera!
It was crazy.

There are probably more WT and Axis in the City limits than there are in most countys in Texas.

Times have really changed since I hunted there in the 60's and 70's. Back then if it was brown it was down! roflmao

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Now it's "if it's brown, it's in town!"

I think "if it is brown it is down" is still operative, but what I'm seeing is a lot of city people buying 1-40 acres to live on or put up a recreational house on -- and they don't hunt, so deer numbers remain high.

It's amazing what happens when you let some walk. Now only if East Tx would get on board with the program.

Yeh, that's why East Texas doesn't have Axis or Blackbuck too....right?
I'm sure Bandera owes it all to "letting some walk".
Especially since Bandera and East Texas have the same kind of terrain and landscape.

Tons of deer out here. I like to take my boys to the city park in the evenings to watch the axis come out....usually around 30-40 at a time.

A Buddy of mine lives near what used to be the head waters of Medina Lake. It is amazing the amount of Axis he has at his feeder at times. Also tons of WT. And they are not saved in that area.

Big deer in the Hill Country has to do with deer density being so high and hunting culture lower than East Texas -- oh, and high fences.

I have 40-50 wt and 10-20 axis in the back yard everyday. Wife shakes the corn bucket and they come running.

Plenty of deer there.
We will see 15 at a time, shoot one... and 20 return. Crazy
