Purchased a set of cabelas wooltimate camo.....simply put I have been hunting in North Dakota for white tails at sub zero temps and stayed warm. It's awesome stuff.

I have a set and I love it! I have the wind shear version, wore it in Wyoming and was extremely comfortable and warm. Also very quit which I like a lot.

Only gripe I have is that it pulls in burrs like a magnet, price to pay for wearing wool, otherwise no complaints.

We sell a boat load of it and if you watch the western hunting shows, a lot of outfitters use it. We get great comments on its warmth, quietness and warm when wet.

Who's "we"?

But I agree. I actually bought the gloves at half-price ($20) at Cabella's this weekend. Inventory this week and they were looking to get shut of a lot of stuff so they don't have to count it. Guy gave me a voucher to take to the register. woot

Well, think about it. It is a Cabela's product. Who sells Cabela's products?

Pitt works for Cabela's.

Pittstate,

What's your opinion/recommendation on the best cold weather hunting boots...I'm talking Iowa in Jan in a stand when it's below zero. Just curious what you see and hear from customers.

Thanks,
Tony

Thermacell heated insoles if you are just sitting in a stand. That is just my opinion.

If your feet get cold with those two, you need to quit hunting.

Well, That ain't gonna happen. I've used the Artic Shield Products and wasn't all that impressed... the Heater Body suits are great as are their "booties.". Have not tried the Thermacell products as I have read varying reports. I may give them a try based on your post.

The Artic Shield aren't the best at all, but when used as a package deal with the heated insoles, they are very toasty! The hold the heat in very well. I like them because they fold up easy and fit in my backpack (taking up very little space). This way, I can go without big clunky boots. As long as you are moving, most boots keep you warm. It is when you are sitting for long periods of time that you start to get cold.

Also, many companies make the boot covers. We actually don't sell them anymore(artic shield), I bought mine in the bargain cave for about $15 as closeouts.

BOBO and Pitt,

At 68 years old I have tried a lot of products. I have and still do own Sorrel boots. When it's in the minus degrees and the wind is blowing 20 mph or more....and you are in a stand all day....it's more survival than hunting at times. But you do it when you know what can walk out when you hunt Iowa. That said, I have yet to find anything that really keeps my feet warm...I will try the themacells next season.

I grew up in Kansas and understand sitting in cold stands. When i say the heated insoles work, it is because I use them and they work. They are a must have for me here in the panhandle of Nebraska.

Heated insoles, vest and hand muff make hunting in sub zero temps very doable. I do 1/4 zip, heated vest, jacket and then shell. Three layers on bottom. Keep warm for 6 hours in stand during sub zero temps.

LOL, that was probably mean of me and I apologize. I already knew he worked for them. That he worked in camo is new information.

I am thinking I may have to try a woolimate.

Pitt,
My only problem is the feet. We usually end up doing an 11 hour sit. Get dropped off 6:15am and sit until 5:30pm unless we kill something. I have the body, head and hands worked out (as you mention, hot hands and a muff work great for the hands)....it's the damn feet. Short of the Heater Body Suit "Booties" over my boots I have not found anything that I really like, and those are really a pain when in a ladder stand. I'm looking forward to trying the Thremacells.

I actually like the woolimate, I like the Berber with the checker board backed fleece better. Both are about same warmth wise. The neck gaiter and beanie are my favorite.

I started using the Columbia electric two years ago works very well. Heated gloffs make a huge difference. To bad Columbia walked away from the electric. Love my electric jacket and boots

I need to make sure I clarify something. If you just use the heated insoles, you have to have them on high and only last about 3 hours (also doesn't keep you feet near as warm as with the booties). If you put the booties over your shoes with the heated insoles, I am able to go on medium and actually turn them off at times, making the battery last about 6 hours. Now, this is in frigid temps. If you are hunting in just 30 degree temps, you should be able to turn them off and on and last over 8 hours. The booties are very critical in this equation....they hold the heat in. Just like wearing a heated jacket/vest....if you wear a not so breathable shell over, it helps to hold in the heat.

When I was a kid, we brought a sleeping bag up the stand with us and got in it standing up. Very effective. I don't like being this constricted and this is why I got with what I was talking about. I have sometimes thought about breaking out the sleeping bag up here in Nebraska. It was -10 with 20 mph wind this week and let me tell you, it was not for the weak! We are talking -20 and higher wind chills all day! I honestly don't know how the deer can survive these temps. I should have taken a pic to show you all...there were over 50 deer in the wheat field eating 3 hours before sun down......just not that 180" buck frown

I use to think electric was for wimps.....not anymore! I am a believer now.
