Look, I know that everybody is proud of "their deer". And check me into the column where I'd much rather have a good-looking 150" deer than an ugly [censored] 160" deer. Score isn't everything. That being said, why in the world do so many hunters lie about their deers score? I've seen tons of pictures on this site that the deer wouldn't come within 15" of their claimed score. If you were proud enough to shoot him, then just man up and claim him. You aren't fooling anyone so don't waste out time with your 150" 8-point with 5" G2s. Use this...., http://www.boone-crockett.org/bgRecords/...+Whitetail+Deer

What makes you so sure you can get within 15" of a deer's score from looking at a picture Honestly, I think that most don't necessarily lie. Could be that they don't know how to score, someone else scored it that doesn't know how to score, they read the score on the score sheet wrong, added wrong, etc. I have seen someone post the score sheet on this forum after they were questioned and the 4 looked like a 9 on the score sheet. They added 50 points to the score from a 140 something to a 190.... Also, I have seen pictures of a 125" deer that people guessed at 145" and seen pictures of 150" deer that everyone guesses at 125". Pictures arent always that easy to score from. I agree with the rest of your statement

They do it for the same reason people hold a fish way out in front of themselves to take a picture. I guess it makes them feel good.

Some people don't take good pics and some deer are just hard to take pictures of. I can post a lot of pictures of deer that will fool a lot of people on score, that all changes once you actually see or hold the antlers. There are points you can see or tine lengths you can't see no matter how the picture is taken. Some guys score they way they were taught and some of those guys just do not know how to score correctly. I have seen one score on here that they guy posted the score sheet on and still calls his buck score 30" more than it actually was. Some scores posted are scores they are given by whoever scored that deer. Some scores are from deer contests and we all know how accurate those scores are. Other scores are "outfitter scores". If "score isn't everything" then why was the deer scored or why do you talk about it?
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

I like scoring because its a way to gauge deer especially when you cant see them live . But it is easy to manipulate pictures. I am sure some stretch the tape but overall most folks try to get close I think
You can't fix stupid

I think most are just not scoring the deer correctly or the outfitter deliberately inflates the score because their charging by the inch. To each his own, but if you post pictures with a score that is obviously wrong even when considering we are looking at a picture you shouldn't get all butt hurt about it when someone corrects or questions you about it. If you don't want to deal with the comments then don't post the score!

There's always a variance in scores. But a lot of people don't know how to score. On the other hand, if you let three certified B&C scorers score the same buck, more than likely you'll get three different scores.
The most common mistake I see is people not knowing how to measure tine length. They do not know where to begin measuring the tine.

I saw something written once that kind of sums it up: "I hunt, I fish, so therefore I lie". Lol.

I guess it's kind of like shooting a 79 and bragging to you buddies but not telling them about the 5 mulligans and 4 foot wedges that you used.

I was paired with a fella on a busy course when I lived in Colorado, his wifed worked in the pro shop. I asked what he usually shoots since I was just starting out, he said "low 70's". I was like, great! I will learn a few things...He used a tee for every shot! butt on the green!

Another thing not mentioned, some of these guys went to a pay-by-the-inch place and were snookered by the outfitter into paying more than they should have.

I've seen a deer grow multiple times even after the initial deer & score was posted.

Then if you ever kill a bull elk, and haul him out on foot, deer seem tiny.
