I've done this in the past and the deer seemed to like it. Does anyone else? What kind of mineral do you use?

Rice bran is very high in phosphorus so any mineral should be skewed towards calcium. Deer can use a calcium/phosphorus ratio between 4/1 and 1/2 with 2/1 being ideal. I believe that in areas poor in phosphorus rice bran is a great attractant and useful supplement.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I pour it on the ground In a pile. Got to watch the weather for rain. Make sure it is homogenized.

I learned about using rice bran from friends in LA who buy it by the ton from the mills. I tried it in Scurry County for the first time this year and the game out there loves it. On more than one occasion I've watched a dominant doe fight off others that wanted to get to a pile of rice bran, but she didn't want to share. Pretty funny to watch those old does get up on their hind legs and bat the others away!
Never mixed it with anything other than corn, but it works great all by itself. Won't work in a spin feeder though as it will clog things up since the powder is so fine.

My experience is like your Cajun. However, the acorns this year are trumping everything.

Yep, acorns will do it, but we don't have any oak trees on my lease!

My land is just about totally oaks and the deer only eat acorns on a year like this. Neither corn nor rice bran have drawn them. Last weekend I saw the first deer in over a month.
