I'm in the market for a new 22-250. I'm considering a Browning A Bolt or Tikka T3 Lite Stainless, but that's just because I'm most familiar with those rifles. So, does anyone have a recommendation in the $500-$700 range? Curious to see what others recommend.

Thanks.

The .22-250 is chambered in rifles of all shapes, sizes and finishes. I tend to like the two extremes, either the heavy varmint guns or the light, trim hunting sporters. There are many quality firearms on the market, maybe more that there's ever been. What do you like in a rifle?

I like durability and accuracy the most. That's why I like the stainless option. I take very good care of my firearms and doubt I'll ever put thousands of rounds through it, but you never know. I'm torn on the bull barrel - part of me loves it and part of me thinks it too heavy. I found a Remington 700 Varmint today in black synthetic w/blued heavy barrel in my price range, but wanted to see what others shot. They also make a stainless fluted version, but I don't know if the stainless is a good option in 22-250. I don' own any other rifles with 3500fps - 4000fps ballistics so I'm not sure exactly what to look for. I'm basing my A bolt preference on reputation and the Tikka on a .270 I own in that rifle.

If you're not opposed to a heavy barrel, check out the T3 Varmint Stainless.. Have one in 22-250 & it'll shoot better than me.. It's not light, but I don't use it as a walk around rifle..

Been eyeing that one T-Bone, just wasn't sure of the benefit of the bull barrel and it's quite a bit more $$.

Same here. I currently own a heavy-barreled tang Ruger M77 with the old-time flat bolt for PD work and a Browning XBolt Micro Hunter that serves as my walkabout .22-250. The light XBolt runs right with the old Ruger in the accuracy department.

The OP should decide if he wants a specialized heavy varmint rig for bench work with limited mobility, or does he want a general purpose hunting rifle for stalking?

My plan is to set up and call for coyotes. I'm not going to be dragging this around stalking game. If I want to do that, I'll carry my AR15. Might even put a bipod on it so I'm not too worried about the weight.

Sounds like a bull barrel is the way to go. Any recommendations other than what I know?? I really hadn't considered a Ruger even though I own one that I like a lot. Good idea. I wasn't aware that they made a varmint version.

I have a savage i use for p dog killing. We shoot them at over 300 yards. we are shooting at pups most of the time, they are about the size salt shaker. Have had it for 4 years shoots as good as it did new. But I do use a Lepold VX 3 16X24.

Check out the Savage model 10 Predator Max 1: 24" fluted medium weight barrel with an Accustock, it should shoot 1/2" groups and is in your price range.

I have a 70s vintage Rem 700 BDL heavy barrel varmint special I bought new. It's taken coyotes, foxes and hundreds of prairie dogs. On paper it has shot 1 hole groups. It's been a dang good rifle, but the barrel makes it heavy to carry and you sure wouldn't want to lug it around all day. My brother in law had a Rem 788 in 22-250 and it would shoot with the 700. My brother has the Remington limited edition in 22-250 with sporter barrel and it is a good shooter too. Heavy barrels are nice but if you have any need for carrying it, i would go with a sporter barrel. I think they heat up slower if shooting a lot as in a prairie dog hunt. But if coyotes, foxes are the norm, I would go lighter.
