I build all kinds of stuff for my nieces and nephews, some they love some they look at me like I'm nuts. I found an old bike in the trash and stripped it down and turned into a Harley themed bike and that was a hit but my latest little thing will go over well too because it has candy. I had scrap cedar from a fence and some oak trim from a nice furniture like snake cage I built and also some red wood trim from I don't know what. Anyway the lady at work was selling hot sauce so after I ate it I had an empty jar so the whole thing was free. I know it looks like it too but it's smooth no splinters and kids don't care, it spits out candy. Easy to see how it works. All I did to the wood was knock the edges off with 40 grit wheel and then a little hand sanding to smooth it out and always drill nail holes when using this little pieces and there you go, one gum ball or M&Ms or peanuts or whatever you want machine.

looks like something that would be in the general store at Cracker Barrel. You could stain it and burn initials into it and gift it to one of the kiddos.....

Nice, but you do need to put a finish on it or the wood will get dirty from the little hands. I would use polyurethane, one coat should do it.

Purty kewl, I like. But you do know, eventually they'll figure out they can just unscrew the jar and be GET ALL the candy

So does the hole go all the way thru, so the candy drops out of the bottom? Or do they pick at it from the top? Either way, I say it's an awesome gift idea!

Seen some very similar at Silver Dollar City in Missouri, they used those large pickle jars.

The hole goes all the way through and it sits up on the 2x so they can get their hands under it. Yeah I know they will figure out how to just unscrew it but it might be cool for a little while.
Dogcatcher your right I was gonna leave it but it prolly needs a little poly.
I made my nephew a deer antler whistle and forgot all about it a few years ago and last time I was at my brothers I seen it and said hey I forgot about that. My brother said the kid carries it in his pocket blowing it all the time but it "broke". I said I will fix it he says no you won't it's working just like I like it. I guess he modified it a little so it his kid wouldnt blow it all the time but he still carries it.

That's real neat bud. I'm probably gonna make a couple for the nephews this weekend for Christmas. Thanks for the great idea!

I really like how you did yours. I do mine a tway bit different. I've changed mine up over the years. I glue wiggley eyes on and use a pipe cleaner mustache. Here's one my Uncle made about 30 years ago.
back when we used to eat housecats we marinated them in louisiana hot sauce and soy sauce then season them with lemon pepper........then onto the grill slow cooking them 3 hours........excellent folded in tortillas and pico de gallo----Newgulf

My youngest son built one of those in middle school shop class (1998). I still have it around here someplace. Nice
