Until today the biggest buck my 16 yr old boy has shot was a spike. We have done a lot of hunting together and have passed on a lot of deer so this morning was really exciting for us. I put him in one of my favorite spots and I went down the road to the next. We have saved several cull bucks & spikes for the kids so was hoping at least one of those would show so he could scratch his trigger finger and put some meat down. I was busy watching 6 does and a nubbin' buck when my son texted me. "I have a spike but he is out there pretty far". So I respond telling him that if he is comfortable with the shot then take it, if he is not comfortable then don't take it & wait for him to come closer. Then I hear his 243 bark. He tells me "I got him, I think he's a 6 pointer but he is outside the ears like you said". scratch (Our rule is shooter bucks have to be outside the ears) I thought we were about to shoot a spike roflmao He happened to look at the short stretch of road behind the deer blind at the right time while watching the spike & does, this 8 pointer stepped out at 50 yrds & he sent a 100 gr CoreLockt to the base of the neck and that was that. I'm gonna do a Euro for him, along with a nice boar of his I have in my freezer. Good times.....my niece also finally got her first deer yesterday (spike) and another this morning. food Walking up he/we were all smiles, little better than what he is used to shooting...

This is what 2,500.00 lbs of corn looks like in the back of a 1/2 ton Chevy roflmao

Good times & can't wait to do it again. As usual my daughter jumps in there with a knife grin

They are certainly capable grin I just can't do it though. I let them go by themselves one morning and figured I would sleep in, nope. I worry too much I guess & couldn't sleep hammer Maybe someday....

Nice!

I had my old chevy loaded down like that more times than I can count. Max out the tire pressure and roll on. Put about 3200 lbs in my old one not counting the pasengers and drove from SA to Hebronville, truck road like a cadilac!

Thanks again ya'll. Pink my daughter is the first one to jump in there, she pushes her brother out of the way to clean an animal and gripes at him if he's taking too long. roflmao First thing she said was, "Dad can I gut it?" clap That's my girl. grin

Some might take offense to my comments, but it's good to see a "first real buck" taken by a kid at an age that reflects him/her having spent many seasons earning the opportunity through hard work and dedication to the sport.
