For over 15 years I've wanted to shoot a buck with a pistol and have carried several pistols for years with scopes on top only to have the buck show up out if pistol range so I take him with the rifle. Brought a client up to Mule Deer hunt this week and 50 min after we get in the stand in walks his buck so we tagged the buck the first night of a three day hunt. So today we went looking for a pig or a doe for him to donate the meat to his church. This afternoon in walks a nice 4 year old heavy 8. He ask me if I wanted to shoot him? I said no I wasn't looking to take a buck yet this year BUT if he walks down here into pistol range I would love to if he didn't mind. He said he'd love to see me shoot one with my 4" Ruger Superblackhawk 44mag open sited. Sure enough he walks strait down the trail toward the blind headed to the second feeder. At 17 yards I stop him and SMOKE him!! I was over the moon with excitement. banana banana banana banana
We went down took a couple pics and got back in the blind. About an hour later two does walk in and he gets his doe smile. What an awesome hunt God truly blessed us today flehan

Gotta love getting one with a handgun. Open sighted handgun to me is a lot like getting with a bow to me, short range required.

Mental note: Txvarminter is Robert Earl Keen Jr.

How far did he run? From the 2nd pic, looks like not very far.

Congrats. Good feeling to take one with a pistol.

Thanks everyone
Got him home and measured him out at 126 2/8" gross and 125 1/8 " net. He's the most symmetrical buck I've ever seen with only 1 1/8" total difference between sides clap
