My first encounter with this buck was july of 13' while going to check cameras I jumped him out of his bed approx. 80yrds away he took 2 bounces and watched me as I killed the ranger, he looked huge in velvet and I had fully intended on hunting him and only him during the week long season. I pulled all my sd cards 3 days before opening morning and had daylight pics of him for the last 3-4 days. The stage was set, Saturday morning of 2013 season my hopes where high as it had began to snow and I knew this guy would be on his feet. I hunted all but 2-3 hrs Saturday and never could find him, same sunday and the snow continued. Perfect conditions and no sign of my buck, I stayed at the ranch 85% of shooting light through the next Saturday with no encounter. I knew a neighbor had to had killed him as I had spoke with one of the guys and they had him regularly on cam as well. I shot a good buck Saturday mid day and called it quits. Flash forward a year, no sign of my buck no pics no sightings, nodda, and 2 days before season he showed back up. This time he wasn't so lucky. I tried to get my wife on him but with her being 6 months pregnant our stalking odds were not great as we watched him between 600-800 yrds for the last 30 minutes of light. The next morning came it was 28deg and she said she didn't want to go that I should still go and get him as he is gonna hang from the same wall no matter the shooter. As my luck had it at 715 he showed. 220 yrds the 180 grain corelock found its spot and he hit the sand. I was beside myself and believe it or not I wish she would've got out of bed would've been her best buck and was almost mine. He is #2 by 1 7/8 inches. Needlesss to say and score aside I was more than happy to have knocked him down, the luck ran out on him the second year. Grossed 176 6/8" Net 171 7/8. Ive been blessed to do my fair share of hunting different game and I would trade any hunt anytime to chase the mulies in the sw panhandle sandhills, Absoultly love it.. The Game Cam pics are him in 2013.
