Hey gang-
I'm interested in going on a guided elk hunt next fall. I really don't have a preference as to distance from home, but I'm really not looking at HF stuff, more interested in heading west.
Does anyone have experience with an outfitter that you'd recommend?
Just returned a few weeks ago from my first guided hunt in Montana in the Bearpaw mountains at the Faber Ranch and couldn't be happier with them and their operation but they kind of specialize in mulies. I just don't know where to look or how to find a good outfitter in a good area, and I'm not looking to spend $10k or whatever and not really looking for a 400" bull or anything. Just a solid operation, opportunities for decent Bulls, good scenery and since you usually get what you pay for, not the cheapest operation out there. Not wanting to completely rough it with tents or anything but it doesn't have to be the Biltmore either.
Do any of you have some experience and recommendations?
Kevin
We kept it as a pet for several months until it got run over by a truck. Then we ate him.

Yes. Ross Adney with Beavertrap Outfitters out of Dayton, Wyoming. Good 300-340 bulls in the beautiful Bighorn mountains. Ross will work hard to get you a bull. Physical but won't kill you. I think $4500 now for a weeklong hunt.
The catch: probably need 3-5 points to draw an Area 38 tag. So may have to file this away for the future.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I used Zane Streator in 2011. He is in Texas but has several private ranches around the Las Vegas NM area. Guaranteed tag, lodging and meals provided. He used an older motel there in Las Vegas to house the hunters and will bring in someone to cook the meals there. I went late and was the only hunter so I just ate out with the guide. Had a good time, made a good friend and saw a bunch of elk. If I would have been alittle more patient I might have gotten a bigger bull but I chose not to. Not hard hunting on the ranch I was on. There is another man from Texas who outfits in the south central part of Colorado. Walt Eisenhour is his name and he lives in Lee County. I just can't think of the name of his business. I have heard good things about him and he is on private property also. I have spoken with a person who has hunted with him and now does some guiding for him. He fills up and I guess means something. There is also a member of this forum that posts every once in awhile. Trifecta is his business and I believe he hunts out of the Chama area. I want to go to Chama one day.
