If you don't go with a weapon mounted light (red, white, green, everyone 'knows' what color they think is best), then go with a light or lights on or around your feeders, or both.

Good question.. Will a bright spotlight spook hogs at night? If so what about the bright red or green lights?

Get a Hog Light. It magnets to the bottom of the feeder, works dusk to dawn, and is motion activated. It's LED tech that comes on very dim and then creeps up to full brightness. Mine is using C batteries, but will soon be connected to my solar power plant, asd the batts went dead recently after a couple of months. I have pics of sounders under the light and they don't seem to care a bit. Here's a link to the one I have. It's white LED's.

I bought a barrel mount flash lite from Acadamy, they have red, green and white good distance to use with scope. I got the green no spooked yet. Good for about 70 80 yd.s. The cost was about $40 also have a flashlight from Lowes 600 lumens works good.

Hogs can see the light just like you can see the light white, red, green ect. They use hogs eyeballs to teach students about the human eye in anatomy class. Now there are plenty of successful night hunters using lights the key is that the hogs do not relate the light with danger. A hog that has seen a white, red, green light before and was shot at will run when it sees the light again. Just like a human that has never seen a rifle does not get scared when you aim at them from a distance. The best fix for this is the feeder lights that are always on because the hog will not relate the light to danger because the light is ways on, vs a spot light that only comes on when you shoot.
The good news is hogs multiply fast and move around so there will always be new untrained targets show up eventually!

Stegar, what is your hunting set up like? How often do u hunt? Do u live on or very near the property? Do you have multiple feeders/properties that you hunt?
Fast paced gregarious society forgets the healing power of solitude. It's worked thousands of years. Casting a line/gazing into a campfire/sitting in a blind after a long week is medicine for the soul. The serenity and peacefulness of it all is majestic.

I hunt public land. Cooper, OSB Caddo and just started hunting the Corps land around Lake Lavon. I don't have a feeder or a stand set up. I carry in a pop up or just walk and stalk. I try and go about 1-2 times a month ( I have 3 small kids at home ) as time allows. I am about 40 miles from the Corps land. you can night hunt on the Corps land but it is Shotgun only north of 380.

My daughter and I did quite well with inexpensive red and green light she bought. We were at about 80 yards and hunting from a blind. She was five for five with one being a young coyote. The green seemed to hold them better than the red but it was close. She had a Nikon 3-9 bdc scope that gathers light remarkablly well. Shots were taken around midnight each night....

When I was in Texas last year I used an Orion HG-25 200 yard green light that I bought off of Amazon. I love the light and could see my hog very clearly in the dead of night from about 70 yards out through my scope. He didn't have a chance. You don't need all the high tech stuff, this light cost me $100 if I remember right and I already had my rifle and scope. All I had to do was buy the light and the rings to put the light on my scope. Good to go.

Full moon. You can use regular scope if you're up close and personal. Its just fun have having thermal and NV gear one isn't limited to light.

That is just more of a bite than I can chew. I've done night hog hunting a number of different ways. Stalking, driving, blind hunting, and even sitting in the middle of a field listening for noise. A lot of the time we find ourselves driving the Hummer along the fence at night where the crops are. We've always come up upon a few hogs running the fence, likely spooked by us on the other side of the field. We just use a spotlight and the brights. If it's just two of us one jumps out and takes care of business. The rest of the time at night I'll usually find a likely crossing for food or water and have a dim green/red feeder light at a distance so I can see the silhouettes pass by. That or a rifle mounted scope with a low setting. Feeder hunting with lights usually works well. Just some of what I've been experimenting with and having success with.

I've heard that the biggest thing that scares hogs about lights is that if you hit them with a white light, all of the sudden, the shadow that it creates scares the heck out of them. When I use a spot light, I will start by shinning it up and slowly moving it down. It didn't spook them near as much, even with a white light. If NV is not an option, I like green better than any other color, but I will still start by shinning it above them and moving down slowly.
gun control means hitting what you are aiming at!

Colt, I was there In early spring. I will go back in a few weeks. walked up on a group of about 10 in the thick stuff but could not get a clear shot. I ordered a scope mounted green light yesterday. I am also going to get a feeder light to hang in a tree over a bait pile next time we go out. thanks for all of the input.

Spot light and a uv or truck... on private land of course.. but that's only when the moon isn't out.. right now with the moon as bright as it is ill just grab the rifle or bow and take of walking with some binos.. very very easy to see them in the pastures and don't even need a light to shoot.

Bigpiglights.com. Get the green weapon mounted light. I have never had a hog spook from the green light. Not 1, either solo boars or groups of sows and piglets. They don't see it.
