After reading many posts it seems that the 2014 hunting season may be a very deserted season. Where I hunt in Uvalde I have been getting plenty of action, I may see 4 deer each sit but of course no bucks. Where do yall hunt?

It's been said many times on this forum, and that is it's all about location!
I've read many times where one guy is hunting an area and not seeing anything to speak of and just a short distance down the road they are overun with deer.
There are other factors that play into it also, but deer need cover, a food source, and water.
If you have the big three you can have deer, but throw drought, human or predator pressure into the mix and things can change.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I turn 72 in two weeks and this is the worst year I have seen in a long time. It just happen that way every few years. We still have a lot on the camera, but only at knight.

I hunt in Upshur county near Gilmer. We just don't have and have never had a very good deer population. I got extremely luck getting my 10 point. Hang in there.

It's the time spent in God's creation with family and friends making memories that counts.

We hunt in Fayette County by Muldoon. During bow and the first two weeks of the season, we saw plenty of deer, but most of the bucks were young. The cams were showing a couple of monsters for the area. We passed on several "legal" bucks. The week of Thanksgiving was deader than I have ever seen it. We hunted the whole week from sun up to sun down, and saw less deer than one day of opening weekend. Corn is piling up at the feeders. We are chalking it up to the bumper acorn crop. Pops got lucky and bagged a spike on 11/28. This year's tally so far is one spike, two hogs, two coyotes and two bobcats. We know there are big deer holding there, but they are in the thick woods. It's time to go guerilla. Best of luck in the home stretch!

Plenty of bucks cruising opening weekend of gun season here in Erath cty. I shot an 8pt that I probably should have let walk, but he was cruising. When they do that you have about 5 seconds to decide whether to shoot or not. I shot. FIL shot a nice 18" 6 with no brows Friday evening in Comal county. My local processor is having her best year ever. Lots of deer being taken. Warm weather early on has prolonged the rut IMO.

Dont blame you erath, I would've done the same exact thing as you considering the amount of bucks i'm seeing.

i hunted from thursday on south of albany and it was beyond slow. had more good deer on cams before labor day then I've ever had but they are showing no interest in feeders or wheat fields. Walked a few miles both days and saw a ton of huge tracks crossing roads, so the big deer are still there, just not making it easy. Went in to town and pretty much everyone I spoke to said they were having really slow seasons as well.

Same in Hall county, slow! By this time usually have layed eyes on several mature deer, not this year. Have not seen a definite rut.

yeah, worried about how this rut might turn out. I had high hopes going in to the season but with this recent activity all I can do is cross my fingers.
