Yep, when the time is right, that can be a fun thing to do. Nice photos, not easy when you're being "stalked"!

I never take my camera when rattling, to busy looking and ready to shoot something . Rattled this morning and got 2 young bucks in quickly. Then a pickup and cattle trailer rattled into the neighbors. Might have to take my camera in the morning and try again.

I use a rattling bag and if it weren't for me rattling in a buck that came straight towards me and and buddy last season I would have thrown them away. I'm telling yall this buck came charging us sitting out in the open my buddy shot him at 10yards we dove out of the way and he fell20 yards behind us.

I've had them come in on a rope and a few snuck up on me through the thickest brush and never made a sound....I just had to sit back and watch.

Anyone use a grunt call? My first time using one will be this weekend so I'll see how it goes.

I rattled in a great buck this year that I was blessed enough to shoot and a small buck too.
Grunting and a snort wheeze can be effective too.

I haven't used it much, but I have had success with it. Rattled in a spike last year that bee-lined to within 10 yards of us.

I LOVE rattling but I mostly hunt in east texas now and I have never had anything come in to my rattling there. I have rattled in many deer in south and west texas, it is one of the funniest ways to hunt when the time is right and it works

Absolutely. One of the most exciting hunts you can do. And don't get discouraged if it doesn't work the first time. It never works every time. But when it does it's almost magical.

I've my best success rattling and grunting where there's an abundance of mature bucks.
Personally, I've seen great response to grunt calls than rattling. I once watched a nice middle aged 8 pt poking through the brush. Clacked the horns together really loud and all he did was look my way before proceeding the same way he had been. I blew the grunt call and he came charging my way. I've had other similar experiences in the hill country, south Texas and San Angelo areas.

I've rattled a bunch over the years, most of the time I was probably not effective due to the time of the season being wrong. I've had better success lately, even rattling one in from about 300 yards off and getting to watch him all the way in to 30 yards.

Not until mid-December, but yes. About ten years ago we really started making an effort to keep our buck to doe ratio around 1 and it has made a huge difference in the effectiveness of rattling. I actually rattled in the last buck I killed from a box blind, but it's a lot more fun down on the ground in the thick stuff. I hunted this guy hard for a few days and finally rattled him in at about 10am one cold morning in early January 2013.

Done it with very mixed results. Likely because timing was off for some of it. Rattled my best buck into a box blind at about 230 in the afternoon a few years ago.
Last year late season had a spike I was tying to shoot. He was all alone and very skittish and had taken off. I hit the horns for just a second and he came back which was a mistake for him.

I have had more luck rattling in deer in the afternoons than mornings. I think doe ratios have something to do with it as well. When there is more competition for the ladies, rattling seems to be more effective, IME.
That, and being within earshot of a buck helps as well.

When the bucks are responsive to it and charged up it's awesome and can't be beat. Other times not so much for my area. I've spooked every deer in a 100 acre radius at times. Timing is key

One of these days I am going to get me one of those fancy cameras for some action shots. All of The picture above were taken with my cell phone and your right you better be on your toes when it happens. I have yet to get or try to get a picture if a real shooter. When it's right, all hell will break loose in a split second, also you might be surprised how often coyotes will respond and run right up in your lap .
